'78 K10 Build

Sounds good. I get of at 4 and ill head home, load up my ****, and leave. I need to find my damn cooler.

Well I figured out why my gas gauge wasn't working.... Somebody had flipped my tank switch to the passengers side and I never even thought to look because I, myself, have never touched it. :haha::doah:

However, I did some wheeling yesterday and messed it up and now is leaking from where a PO had JBweld on a leak. I got high centered on a hill that just so happened to have a rock at the top. So I may just re JBweld it or buy a new tank, I dunno yet.

Said hill..

Rocker damage from said hill...

Post 344 is where mike (oakknight) tore up his steering box. Little past that I ripped my trans line on my front drive shaft.

Looks like a good time was had by all. Glad you figured out the gas tank problem.

I had a pinhole leak in my tank last summer and I'm here to tell you - if you can patch the hole with some gas tank sealer, do that instead of putting in a new tank.

If you do decide to replace the tank, learn from my mistakes. First of all, just do your self a favor and unbolt the bed and tilt it over away from the tank you're replacing. This will make it easy to reattach the fuel hoses. I used a hi-lift to jack the rear of the bed up about a foot or so(make sure to put some cardboard between the cab and the front of the bed to avoid scratching the cab up) and then I lifted it up from the side as high as I could without damaging anything and stuck a wood block between the bottom of the bed and the frame to hold it up while I worked. Second, try to get some of the rubber pieces that are made to go between the tank and the straps. I used an old mountain bike inner tube, but it worked it's way out over time and now I hear a lot of annoying squeaking. Third, put some grease on the o-ring that seals the fuel pickup where it goes into the tank and make sure not to deform the o-ring. Make sure it stays in place or you will smell gas all the time and gas will spill out the top every time you fill up. Ask me how I know.

Hopefully your gas tank swap will be less of a pain in the butt than mine was, if you decide to do it. :D And if you have more than a couple of gallons in there when you drop the old one, use two floor jacks to let it down easy. If you only use one jack, it will drop off the jack and spill gas all in your eyes. :doah:

I was actually thinking about doing away with the belly tanks and putting a cell in the back.

I could see how people would break stuff a lot at that spot. A guy in a buggy broke a driveshaft right on that ledge when we got there.

You know I've thought about doing the same thing. Someone on here had put a fuel tank out of a Suburban between the framerails that I think was like 44 gallons or something. Seems like he said that the brackets and all swapped over for the most part. Only thing is, you have to run the fuel lines and do something about the filler location. I think he cut a hole int the bed. It may be worth it though.

I think you should do it and post how you did it on this build thread.

I will look into it. I will do a write up if I decide to go that route.

I have those same ones. I keep them greased and they seem to ride better and quieter than stock.

Reason I bought them is cause I was talking with a guy that has them last weekend. He informed me that the rear of the front spring can hit the frame a crack it. These give you more room so you dont really have to worry about that. Hell it might give me a little more flex too.

I think they are about 1/2" or maybe 1" longer than stock. I can see how if you had lift springs and the stock length shackles, your spring could contact the frame because the lift springs may be longer than the stockers when they flatten out. Plus the gold color looks cool too.

Thats true, and we all know how much I like stuff to look good. :D

Where is your build thread, Andy??

My truck isn't really cool enough to have a build thread. :frown1: I haven't done anything out of the ordinary to it really. Just lift springs, shackle flip, bumper, winch, etc. About the coolest thing I did was put bucket seats in it. Other than that I've just replaced stuff that I've broken over the years like steering shafts, axle parts, transfer cases, timing chains, gas tanks, alternators, water pumps, motor mounts - you know stuff like that.

Recently the overdrive automatic trans bit the dust, so I've built up a TH400 that I got from the junkyard and I'm going to try to get it work pretty soon. I got the transfer case that went with it because mine's leaking from a mystery location (I've already reaplaced it last year anyway after breaking the old one), instead of just swapping the input shafts. After that I'm going to replace the engine. Pretty sure it's the original 305 in there and it's leaking oil and smoking. If I can find a carbeurated big block for a resonable price, I wouldn't mind having it. Then of course I would want one ton axles...

Hmmm... I guess if I did all that, I could have a pretty good build thread. Too bad I don't have too many pictures of all that stuff. Guess I'll just enjoy reading your's and everyone else's. :D

Yeah sounds about like half of the build thread on here :haha:. That's more than i've done to mine. Might as well find all your pictures and make one.
