'78 K20 - RootBreaker from 1990 - nov 2025 8.1L not runnin

It's like a damn soap opera.

that is why im throwing it out there... more coming soon... :haha:
so grab your

Cant you just let air out?

now what is that going to do?
I am allowed 33" to the bottom of the door... and it is at 32" so what will letting air out do? max tire size in NJ is 38".. now it is up to them to decide on their deuschness of 38.25" :dunno:

found the holy grail.......

motor receipt from 2001!!!!!!!!!! FYAY!!!!!!!!!
now all that is left is to get the truck weighed... :woot:

I can't believe all the trouble you're having just to drive a perfectly good truck that you already own outright. There's obviously a money-making racket going on in NJ. I'll bet a bunch of new car dealership owners must have lobbied for those ridiculous laws because they're about the only non-governmnent party that could possibly benefit from some crap like that. Obviously your state wants everyone to drive a new car.

yes and no... the problem is my wife wants the truck 100% absotively positively legal..so to do this.. i have made so many modifications... that all this is being done... so no way anyone can gripe about the truck..

my wifes biggest fear.. and it is her biggest fear.. is if the brakes go on my truck and i slam into someone that they will sue... then look at the truck and find these little flaws... even if someone else hits me and gets hurt they can sue.... so in a long explanation.. it all makes sense and to ease her mind and allow the truck on the road.. ill ablige... :waytogo:

forgot to mention about your new car part.... i have been noticing this well before you say this... i do not see nearly any old cars.. if i look on craigslist for trucks.. it is getting hard to find anything 1985 and older.... sometimes 88 is hard to find.. so yeah they make it difficult.. people get new vehicles and the old ones go away... very upsetting

That's exactly what the liberal/elitist politicians and beauracrats want to happen. They have a certain vision of how things are supposed to be in their warped minds and they think they have to come up with sneaky ways to make their dreams a reality, no matter how it affects everyone else. The sad part is when people actually get duped into voting for those knuckleheads. I think one reason they don't have crap like that where I live is because they know that no one will comply. They can barely enforce speed limits.

ok went to a local quary and asked the lady if i could use the scale.. she said.. well we are not a public company.. so i said.. oh well who else has a scale that i could use... i need to get the truck weighed to fill out paperwork to send to trenton..

she then said.. well i have to "Look Down To Do PaperWork" so if you pull around to leave and go slow leaving and happen to go over the scale... and points.. and look over here.. you will see some numbers... now I dont know anything and I dont want you to have an accident with a dump truck... so you have to go around...

as I left i used creeper gear over the scale..... 6140lbs... im 190 and 1/2 tank... so ..
6140-190-(9x6) = 5896

but i bought something that adds a few pounds....

so a sneak peak...
what am i going to do with this????

didn't I get a set of headers off you like in 2002?

ok so i had an issue.. if you saw my ORD Zero Rate post...

I took them off and messed up a ubolt... i know should always buy new.. got that straightened out..

took the truck to the inspection station...

well u know how i did.. of course i have never passed first time through..

so where to start..

i get there.. guy waves me in...
hand over paperwork...

1. measures door height

2. enters info into computer

3. measures tires... measures again and again and again.. and checking the previous passed paperwork.. cuz they passed it and under actual tire diameter they put 38"... and i know they are 38.25" or 38.5" to which they told me wouldnt pass...

4. looked over the entire lift.. different items and checking things...

5. had me rock the steering back and forth while they checked underneath..
-- had me get out of truck to show me something...
-- passenger ubolts loosened up a bit on drive there... i didnt pre drive and let it all settle and retighten.. oh well...
-- while rocking the steering wheel they showed me that the cross member was rocking.. weird thing is i have all rivets but for 1.
-- while still rocking showed me that the power steering box was moving so that was loose

6. had me pull up for emissions... they were having problems with their machine... they put an adapter on plug 1 and it kept on messing up reading 30k rpms... weird things.. they finally got it squared away...

7 drive up to final station....

and then he scraped off my old inspection station...... and put my new sticker on......

a

rejected sticker.... oh well.. i didnt figure i was going to pass at first round as i never do...

so i failed emissions... co% max is 3 i was 5. I am reading that the air/fuel screws are out of wack....

now funny thing is he said i can go to any shop or state inspection after i get the emissions portion fixed....so going to shoot for saturday...

after i get that inspection sticker i have to schedule to go back to the high rise guys.... and they will check to see if i tightened up all the bolts.. i already tightened them up.... but for 1.. going to finish a job i started and never finished...

when i put the ord steering brace on....
i did the long Y bar.. but not the small piece... im going to run out today and go get a bolt for that... i misplaced the bolt as i have had this kit for 6 years or so and havent put it on...
sooo during tightening i found...

1 bolt (3 rivets in the other spots and 1 bolt)... tightened that bolt up...

both bolts for Y ORD brace were loose... tightened them up...

tightened up the Ubolts again.. and used a 2' pipe in addition to a 1/2" ratchet.

the truck used to have a sway bar.. the 4 bolt holes showed that the front ones were a funky brace that kinda also can add support... so i put 2 grade 8 bolts into them.....

so once i get that final power steering pump bolt in.. im done with that portion of the inspection (but cant go back till emissions is passed)....

so going to adjust up the carb and try and go saturday morning...

fyi.. NJ is a pain in the arse... but for cars/trucks non modified.. they only do emissions test....

for high rise they pretty much did away with the lights, wipers, horn check but still did the normal lifted stuff and emissions.....

the guy mentioned that i may want to get a brace that they make.. i said it is on there.. well half... but will finish the install... i then said they also make a weld in brace for additional support... i asked if that was legal and he said no... no welding is allowed on the frame.. so not sure what has to be done if the frame cracked at the pump...:dunno:

I started coming back to u guys!!! so

update.. from my last post... i said I failed inspection ... emissions...

I went back 8 more times over 2.5 years and kept failing.. urghhhhh including adding cats to a non cat truck.
my raw unburnt fuel (PPM?) max allowed is 300 and im getting 1550....

so final piece of ORD steering brace is on...
clutch problems - found out I used power steering fluid in the hydro clutch reservoir... and it boogered up the plastic cup.
Ordered one online from a junkyard and it showed up so this weekend will get clutch squared away.

now emissions time...
I took the front bowl off and removed the jets figuring the stock 68's were in there but somewhere in the emissions failing I put in 66's.
I put 64's in.

I then screwed the air/fuel screws all the way in then back out 2.5 turns. Started fussing with it and adjusting.. I got it sitting at .75-1 turn out.. that is it... wonder if it is lean enough and if it will now pass. Not sure so got to get the clutch going but no time for inspection as I can only do it on Saturday 8am-noon but I coach my son at indoor soccer on saturday mornings so gonna have to wait until possibly April!!!!!

anyone know of a local inspection that will also adjust carb to get it to pass? legally to pass...
