79 Blazer Smash 2.0

79 Blazer with a few modifications
rear lower shock mounts. One side of the mount is twice as thick as the other because it wraps under the axle and will guard the parking brake cable that unfortunately wraps underneath the axle. The parking. Brake cable clips are on the side of the mount waiting for the cables. Got a tab in there for the limit strap. The straps I have are too short ( bought them for another truck I didn’t build) so I ordered some.

The cooler unit for the underdrive. I make the little brackets out of 1/4” bolts and and 3/16” wire. The spot I want to mount this puts it real close to the traction bar so I need to modify the floor a little.

Found the box with the shifter so decided to install it. I bought this last year and got the longer cables, sure glad I did. I’ll make a mount with a couple of quick release pins. No boot I like the industrial look of it.

I’m using Fragola -3an brake stainless braided brake hoses. These don’t have a clear sleeve over them like DOT brake hoses do, so I get the nice this 3 to 1 clear heatshink and do it myself. Took the skidplate off and finish welded it. Put some holes in and dimpled them. Got all finished up and realized I forgot to holesaw one of the holes , hmmmm

Moving into some detail work. Limit straps route the beak lines to the frame the straps have springs to hold them back and keep the from drooping. I use Velcro strapping and put the hook side toward the strap and it grabs ahold and stays put. The limit strap also makes a handy guard that keeps trail trash from grabbing the brake hoses. There are individual hoses on each side because I’m putting in a cutting brake handle.

I'm just curious if those are your final shocks. This build seems way too rad for a set of boring twin-tubes. I get that if you're crawling rocks you don't get a lock of shock heating or need 12-stage valving, but I still have the suspicion these are for mock-up and something cooler will show up at some point in time.

You have good intuition as that is just a mock-up shock. I””’ve got a set of 16” Fox 2.5 smooth bodies for it.

The springs were 6” rough country ones that were 5 leaves when I bought them 15 years ago. I took the bottom 2 leaves off straight away before I installed them. The lift was around 3” and I put a 5 leaf in the rear with 3 more leaves and a 1 “ block. 15 years later and all the springs are worn out and now broken in half. Bought a couple of Summit Racing 4”lift ones this afternoon and will get r fixed up this next week.

Parking brake cables routed up through the body. Universal Wilwood cable kit and a handle and body grommets from an Isuzu trooper. I’m thinking that the e-brake, transfer shifter and cutting brake handle will all be on the same quick release mount on the seat cradle.
I also got another steam table pan for the floor mod. This is to make a little more room for the transfer case cooler fan.

The extra space for the cooler fan from underneath. Cooler and fan mounted and the Gearwerx bronze gear oil pump with its bracket mounted. A little clip on the back of the transfer case for the return line from the cooler to the Magnum case. I sent off another output seal housing to ORD to have it machined for a VSS. I didn’t think of it when I built the case but I’m going to want it in there. Last is a short strap insurance for the motor mount, Smash2.0 will have a final 182 to 1 crawl ratio. The transfer case crossmember also got its bump stop supports for the skidplate.

The onboard air I’m going to install is a 100% duty cycle 12v Puma compressor. I like these units because everything I like to put into an onboard air system is there. Compressor, Air switch , some wiring, check valve, regulator, gauge, and a small tank. I do separate all the components and mount them separately to fit my needs and I don’t have to buy them seperately. I will have to have the local Hydraulic/pneumatic place make some high pressure hoses and get a couple fittings.

I had something like that in the back of a 4Runner, left it together and just built a box around it.
