'79 K10 Step Side Rusty Rex

79K10 Stepside
I really like the feel of the prp steering wheel. The seats and wheel are everything I hoped for. The gf really likes the seats. And the harness and seat hold you in much better than the bench.

I’m researching bellhousing and clutch stuff. If anybody reads this that has done this swap let me know if my thoughts on parts are correct.

I’m thinking since I’m using the newest version of gm nv4500, to use all that generation parts as possible. Except use the mal wood hydraulic pedal and use a custom -3an hose down to the throw out bearing.

AC Delco bellhousing .
Luk throw out bearing internal type.
Malwood pedal
Automatic hose and -3an fitting from russel for throw out.

It appears my current clutch, flywheel, and pilot are correct for this setup as well. I used the McLeod flywheel for my ls with the longer crank hub and its dual pattern. So either the old style clutch or a newer one work that are 12” 10 spline.

Ordered The AC Delco bellhousing and internal slave today. Also went with the Malwood 73-87 hydro pedal and reservoir, expensive but supposedly very nice. Transmission will be here soon. Also ordered the -3AN fitting to make the GM slave thread right to the malwood hose.

It will be a bit before the install, I need to pay myself back for the NV4500 and such. Then, the Magnum will get ordered.

They had a 50% off today only sale on some Flowmaster mini bullet cats that I have had my eye on so I got those on the way as well. I want to run some mini high flow cats to help with the fumes when wheeling. The truck runs perfect, not rich but still get the gas stench when crawling. 79' had a cat stock anyway so I guess I'm staying "legal". Montana doesn't check anyway.

Also attached is a photo of my cat today.

And my Jeep at wild Bill trail. Want to take the Chevy there soon.

LJ? and you mentioned double low; Rubicrawler and 4:1?
It is an LJ. Rubicrawler and regular NP231. 5.13, Detroit/Aussie locker. 35’s chromoly shafts F&R.

I crunched the rear panel that day. I have aluminum gen right sides here. And a drop down tail gate kit with aluminum skin here. Another reason I’m broke.

My engine driven fan was too far outside of the shroud. I had these Spal 16" puller fans that were given to me by my old boss. My Ebay PCM is already programmed to run electric fans turning fan 1 on at 195F. I'm only using one fan so far. It idles hot at 80F outside around 204F. And back to 187F going down the highway. I haven't seen it get warmer than 204F but the real hot weather isn't here yet. 204F is acceptable for a stock 6.0l so I'm assuming normal from what I've read.

If the SPAL 16" single isn't enough. What would you guys run for electric fans? Ford taurus, or Lincoln Mark VII? Or something else? I've also heard that 2003 Ford Windstar fans are pretty serious. Going back to engine driven is an option as well. Which would mean shroud extension. I am running a 250 amp alternator and it doesn't even fluctuate when this current fan comes on.

The wiring for the electric fans inside my Ebay engine harness had an issue and were not properly grounded and it cause idle issue at first. This was a 99$ harness, so I just made sure it was pinned correctly and then ran an overlay wire for the ground trigger to my fan relay and wow, no more high idle issue. I'll bet the wire is spliced incorrectly inside. I did pin this harness but not the electric fan circuit cause I wasn't planning to run electric fans and just did not inspect that part. I will say the Ebay harness is just not worth the savings with these swaps.

These SPAL fans move serious air. It's the most air I have seen a single electric fan move. Again the hot weather will tell. Most of the year in Montana the cooling system is fine and doesn't get tested for overheating til summer. But I want mine to be correct and be able to handle desert like temps with no overheat.

The aluminum shroud I'm using is from Ebay, but made USA and only 70$. I also used my rivnut tool for the first time. I like it.

204 is fine for a 6.0L most new stuff all run at 210 normally now days. Another guy on here had a weird running issue with his sniper system I think and it was only when the fans kicked on. Had to move the fan ground from the battery to the frame to get it away from the ecm ground. @AgDieseler is running some new camaro fan setup on his diesel suburban. My wifes 2008 gmc yukon xl denali has a big nice electric fan setup but it would probably not fit on an older radiator.

Good to know about the ground. I have my Fan ground at the frame. But several other grounds hook there. If the issue comes back I'll check what else is sharing that location. The issue stopped as soon as I replaced the wire in the harness and these low end China harnesses are notorious for being wrong. It works rather well though for being a POS for 99$. But a nice USA made harness is really what I need. I'll get one, or rework a GM factory one if I get a deal on one.

I'd like to add I left work in the rain yesterday in this truck. It sounded excellent when I was completely sideways with the shift light glowing and carrying 6K rpm. Wet pavement and a locker though, it's like cheating...

It's ok to hit 6K with only 250 miles on my break-in right? :D

I've drained the oil 4 times already though and it's not making the magic silver oil so I think I'm safe. If I accidentally install windows in the block, then i guess I'll have to eat these words. Couldnt take the smile off my face for at least 15 mins afterword's though. It actually runs fairly hard for what it is.

That billet reservoir is sex on a stick.
You have to have it anodized some other color.

Only if somebody on here will anodize it for me, I also want "sex on a stick" engraved on it. I wonder if Titty pink is an anodize color?

Damn, that's some sexy stuff! :pimp:

Does that pedal assembly bolt to the factory bracket under the dash?

It does bolt in the factory location supposedly and has a new cross bolt and bushing. I can be the test rat with this part. I have found one YouTube video of a guy who installed one in a c10 and he loved it.

It’s an expensive pedal but not really compared to what used factory pedals go for now. And less work than swapping factory pedals. But, the real test will be usage.

You beat me to it. My oem plastic reservoir is getting old and probably brittle. I’ve been wondering what I was going to do about it. I think I found my answer.
