'79 K10 Step Side Rusty Rex

79K10 Stepside
Moved my truck to the back carport. Finishing the little things takes a minute from here on out. Need to mount the hydraulic pedal kit and hope it plays nice.

Installed my new lid and shift. And rear driveline is in. New front one from Tom woods will be here Monday supposedly.

Mandatory pics incoming.

Dumped 120$ worth of Redline MT85 in the nv4500.

Also ordered a stock “cucv “ np205 steel skid plate to just bolt in place until I get even more serious. Probably have my buddy fab something super nice around the transmission and t-case.

Been working on this thing again. Was able to air the tires down and get it in the garage. Doing a cam swap. Engine wiring harness swap to a BP automotive harness from my eBay 99$ harness. A different ignition switch. And need to figure out shifters. It will be a few more months. But want it running and driving well before blazer bash.

This is the cam I chose. Check out this page from Summit Racing https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-8727r1

Mom was over for thanksgiving. She ran the winch controller.

Would you guys remove the zero rate add a leaf in the front? I’m thinking about it. And losing the rear load spring and bottom most leaf. My plan is to save up and order ORD custom leafs later. But my current springs aren’t bad.

Just wondering about lowering the front and rear about an inch or if the zero rate add a leaf makes axle wrap worse when wheeling. I’m open to setting bump stops as needed and more trimming.

Toss in your opinions. Any bad experiences with one in the front and real wheeling? Seems it may stress the front pack.

IMG_3197.jpegIMG_3198.jpegIMG_3199.jpegIMG_3200.jpegI’ve been working on this on weekends. Cam is in. Valve springs swapped to ls6. Ordered coil pack sub harnesses from ICT billet to replace my old ones. They were crispy.

I also ordered a 20 gallon Summit racing EFI fuel cell, tank-inc fuel sender with walbro pump and all the parts to run it in the bed. Happy day.

Will add more pics as I go as usual. I’m stoked for the fuel cell. I have a -6an inline check valve to add to the supply line. Also ordered the rollover style vent for the tank. The correct hold down straps and isolation rubber. Will make sure it’s held it and isolated the best I can.

Made some forward progress this Saturday. Exhaust done, I’m actually fairly happy with my results on the exhaust. Got the spark plugs and wires on real quick too.

A shot of my new fuel tank. And got the harness draped in. Waiting on some more heat shielding for the wiring and the starter etc.

Also ordered a different air intake. And will build that when it gets here.

Hydraulic clutch in and bled for today. Ran heat shielding around the hose and will tie up away from the exhaust. I have a ton of heat shielding stuff here for the wiring and fuel lines.

Also a shot of my Amazon china intake kit that was 50$ with the filter. But yeah, not running that filter. Will be using an AEM dry flow filter with outerwear sock and will heat tape and wrap the filter guard and tube. Even if it doesn’t do much. I am not going to use the silicon hoses from the intake kit as well, ordered some higher end pieces. Still under 200$ with the better filter, when an AEM kit is 350$.

My OEM style air intake was fine, and I may go back to it. But it’s Dorman brand and it fitment at the throttle body isn’t the best.

Mandatory pic dump. I will make the wiring look way better than this. So much wiring to clean up.

Good googily moogily, that's a lot of wiring harness! :eek1:

I like that billet clutch reservoir. :pimp:

Out in the garage yesterday and today. All that shit on the passenger firewall is coming off and a strong attempt at something nice will be getting made. I have a sheet of aluminum and a nice waterproof relay box and a few of those 80 amp relays will be getting used for the fans. And two HD power distribution blocks for power and ground.

I’m liking my cheap Lowe’s wood stove. I can work in my little garage in shorts on January. Even used the poor man’s humidifier cause it’s so dry.

All the wiring near the headers is triple wrapped. And not touching the exhaust. They are close, but should be guarded well. The clutch line is close but not touching and double wrapped.

I will be getting down with my new nut-sert tool and some anti vibration mounts for my relay panel. And any of the harness looms will be ditching the self tappers in favor of a nut-sert. Classy AF.

Ordered a 24” VSS extension from summit. Grabbed the painless wiring brand, made with the same colors and good wire and plug.

Haven’t made it to the firewall wiring and may not today. Making this intake the way I wanted took way longer than expected. Looks and fits great. Less than 200$ here. It’s gets a shot of air from through the grille at speed.

Ordered a 48” MAF extension from ICT billet so I can run the wiring carefully around the side instead.

This is where I’m at for the weekend. I’ll have to think about how I want to lay this little panel out. Not a huge deal. But want to actually give a shit about how it looks and functions for once.

The starter panel will be on the roll cage dash bar.

Gained some progress this weekend. Relay panel is coming along. I was given a brand new sprinter chassis harness they were going to throw out at work, 2500$ worth of copper wire of all sizes and colors. So I can use the wire for projects at home.

I also ordered some parts. Motobilt’s 13 bolt shave cover for my rear 14 bolt. Lugnut 4x4 rear disc brake conversion. ORD hydraulic parking brake kit. ORD FUSH kit. And the cherry of them all, an Eaton E locker for my Dana 60. Which I also have chromoly 35 spline inners and others with Yukon super joints already built.
