79 K5 H-Bomb build

Meh.

Martin

I understand where you are coming from... most people won't have a problem. I, however, seem to be a lighting rod for stuff to go wrong on the trail.

Plus WFO shiznit is cool:

These rear body bolts come out right? I have been heating them up, using PB, beating on them and they simply wont budge. Any other tricks people have used to get them out?

Are you going to run plastic KP bushings or bronze?

No idea on the bolt #k5problems

and I think I have the same wedding ring

Bronze.

I cant tell you how many times I've had to grind/sand/polish of welding slag off my ring. I'm surprised I havent worn all the way through it. :)

Bronze is the way to go, I need to order a pair of those.

I stopped wearing it, wife gets pissed off when she catching me wearing it in the garage. Those side diamonds catch dirt too.

I stopped wearing one when I became an electrician 6 years ago. Safer for the garage too. Mine was tungsten carbide so it was even more of a hazard if something did go wrong. Gold would be the safest option, it's soft and cuts off easily.

@brokenparts those rear body bolts were a tremendous headache to remove on mine. I think I eventually just cut the heads off and knocked them out.

I'm surprised that you went heim joints on the steering. What was the reasoning there?

@truck-oholic Heims for the tie rod only as there is no need for much deflection back there. The heims offer more strength with the hydro assist. The drag link runs the tre's because there is more angle/deflection there and there is not as much of a load on that part of the steering.

I have a feeling I will be cutting those bolts out. So far I've been lucky with most bolts and things so if this is as bad as it gets, I've done well.

Not much to report... got one side of the body lift done. One bolt snapped on the other side... had to put a hole in the floor board to try to get to it.

In the meantime...

Traded those 38s for this:

Plan is to bag it, redo the interior and engine bay, build the big block, wheels/tires, redo trim, leave the patina exterior.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but is the consensus here that doing high steer on a D60 is more hassle than it's worth? I was planning to do it, but then I read your build thread and saw a few people saying it wasn't necessary. I think if you had a good enough spotter to help keep your tie rods off the rock you should be alright.

Depends on your tolerance, budget and usage. I think it is well worth the effort, money, and time. I seem to be a lightning rod for "trail mishaps " so in my case I'll put up with the hassle.
