My daughter's soccer is mostly over now and most of the leaves are now down so yardwork is almost over for the winter. I have to cut my driveway for a new power wire to my well (old line seems to be grounding out)... after that I should be back on track to finish the K5.

Ok back from the dead... I was hoping things would calm down this winter but the kids were busy so I havent had a ton of shop time. My little girl plays pretty competitive soccer and I've literally been chasing her around Oregon for games and even to Phoenix. Shop time has sucked but Dad time has been awesome (yes I know I'm subjecting everyone to non-tech stuff but it's my thread). This is what is taking up my time:

Snot (the dually) had an intake leak so I swapped that out:
Then the fuel pump died and I had to get it out of the shop to help a buddy put on a leveling kit on his new Rubicon. I used a Roadkill trick:

Truck runs awesome and I got a great deal on it. Just needs the trans swapped out. It currently has a th400/208 in it but came with the original 700r4/208 too.

Oh, and I sold my doubler thinking I had a line on Magnum set up which fell through. Now I am back to finding a transfer case solution.

I have played of buying a NOS NP205/Magnum from ORD which is some serious coin or going back to the idea of the 3 speed Hero case. Neither are cheap ... all said and done the Hero case ends up being only $1000 more than the ORD setup.
The pic of the 84 with the 42 in front of it was an idea I dreamed up last night.... The idea being to swap the "hard core" parts (springs, axles, t400, big block, tires, etc) from the blazer to the 84 and the stock stuff from the 84 to the blazer. That way the blazer will remain a nice driver on 35s, 700r4 etc and the 84 can beat to shit with the 1 ton stuff.

If still looking magnum/titan box, don't worry about only finding a big bearing 205. You can still use a 10 or 27 spline version, you just have to bore the input of the case to accept the larger bearing. But with both the magnum and titan box, you have to tear down the case to replace the input shaft anyways...so it's just one extra step to bore the case is all. And usually the 10/27 spline 205's are plenty and usually cheaper too...just food for thought.
Hero case is beyond bitchin, but kinda pricy. Though I hear what you are saying as in the end the titan/magnum is not a crazy amount of money away from it

Yeah, I forgot that was an option too. Not my preferred way to go but doable. Even going that route isnt too far from the hero case. My only concern is support for the Hero 10 years from now.
I contacted AA and they did not recommend an atlas due to the power and weight of my set up.
Yeah, all valid concerns for sure. I like having a true 4 speed for a trail rig, though you could get buy with a 3 speed too (basically same options as traditional doubler).
I was contemplating an Atlas before going titan box too, when I contacted AA, they told me the exact same thing. They said pretty much anything bigger/heavier than a jeep/buggy, they recommend not going Atlas. Even rock bouncers were breaking Atlas's left and right...that's why TWF came up with the Hero case
What I'd really love to do is either a 203 mated to a Lomax 205 or even possibly a NWF Eco Box in front of a Lomax 205. The Lomax units are hard to come by nowadays but i see one surface a couple times a year on various forums and they usually go for around $2,000. Stupid beefy and 3:1 low in main case so a 203 in front would give you a great 4 spd option. Eco box in front would really be more like a 3 spd since it's already 2.72 but it would definitely be lighter and possibly stronger gear wise than the 203 plus a 8:1 super low.

My patience is getting the better part of me now. I waiting to hear back from ORD @Stephen (I emailed them about putting a package together for me for the magnum/205). I want to get one of these turds back on the trail soon!
I'd hold out for the Magnum/205. Obviously the Atlas is not meant for big toys and the original Hero case design had issues, since this pretty much narrows it down to planetary boxes I'd go for the strongest.
