8.1 - Allison Green Monster Build

Holy crap! I totally forgot about that thread! Thanks bud! Right clicking and saving as a favorite. :waytogo:

Still alive and well :waytogo:.
Project got stalled just for a bit. :D

Did manage to find some headers that will work and got them test fitted.
Got the ORD bigblock crossmember installed.
Had to modify the passenger side frame for the a/c compressor. Still need to reinforce the part I cut out.

Now that I got some of the major Toy-Supporter (aka: the Wife) home project honey-dos done, looks like I will be able to make some progress on this in the next few months.

I'll get some pictures up soon.

Chris

Cool, glad to hear it's still kicking. You'll have to let me know when you plan to fire it up, I'll swing by and hear it sing. :)

Ok, after some pondering, I'm going to box the frame. I have the cab off, so, might as well.
Will be picking up the metal in a week or so, then getting started. I'll do my best to get pictures.

Oh, I did manage to pick up a front end out of a 78 ford that will work for $300. It's an 8-lug HP D44. Not exactly the D60 I was looking for, but, it has the bigger axle tubes
and the bigger disk brakes. With some stronger axles and knuckles it should work fine. Besides, if I ever do manage to find the D60, I'll be able to just bolt it in.

Moderators, feel free to move this to the "Driveway" builds thread.

Could you post pics of the ORD crossmember installed. Last I talked to ORD they didnt know if it would fit the 8.1. Thanks.

I'll try to get them on tonight.
FYI, I used DIY 4x4 competition motor mounts.

damn, that is awfully close. If the motor mount have to much give, the oil pan is going to that crossmember.

Here's a couple more with the transfer case installed and the headers I'm going to use.

And yes, the stack of washers used as a shock spacer will be gone before this thing hits the road. :D

perfect, thanks for the pics! I have the ORD engine mounts but I think the DIY4X mounts are similar. What headers are those, and do they hit the knock sensors? I was going to use the factory manifolds and notch the frame to clear them, but the headers you have look sweet, and clear the frame nicely.

X2 on the headers? What are they?

And I would not use the stock manifolds - any BBC header will bolt onto the 8.1

do they hit the knock sensors?

The driver's side knock sensor heat shield will have to be modified.
Also, there is a block casting on the driver's side that needs to have about a 1/16th of the corner knocked off. There's a lot of meat on it, so, it shouldn't be an issue.
I'll post a pic later.

I'm going to Pismo for 4 days in July, hurry up! I'll keep bugging JDNobodi to get his back together in time too. :)

Hahahaha!:haha:, maybe ready for some snow action if I'm lucky.
Boxing the frame is going to take some time. Good thing I bought that plasma cutter.

Here's a picture of the driver's side block casting that will need a minor trim for the headers.
