80 k5 - frame off 6.0 LS swap

well....if it was easy this forum wouldn't exist....:whistle::pimp:

that is a true statement.

my solution: ordering the new TNA cross member that includes new angle mounts. specifically, ordering them with no engine mount holes drilled - so i can simply drop the engine in, let it sit where it wants to (where its level), mark the holes, then drill, then paint, and then bolt everything all together.

this does two things: keeps my engine mounts bolt in, in case i ever need to change them out, AND increases the clearance between my oil pan and the ord cross member. the ORD cross member worked.... but it was very close, especially to the front bar. The rear tube on the cross member had about a finger's width of clearance, the front was like half a finger. could not get my fingers inbetween them, but they weren't touching.

yay tna.

coming soon for sale: ord big block cross member completely done up with linex

oh yea, and if you ever find yourself underneath your truck painting the frame with a paint brush meant for detailing a model..... you should just check yourself into a loony bin for ocd.

does this look like a crack in the frame? i hit with a stripper pad on an angle grinder to remove all the paint/rust.... so it may just be a grinder mark. take a look. this is the passenger side shock mount on an 80 k5. the mark in question is right to the left of the shock mount. it does not connect directly to the shock mount... it stops short.

Is it the high gloss or regular gloss? I was thinking about going with the high gloss on mine. Could you post some pictures in the sunlight close ups?

according to the eastwood catalog, the paint i used is the "better" and the 2k ceramic is the "best," so the finish would be just as good as mine or better. i think it just came out... i don't remember the 2k ceramic being available when i first started painting the front of the frame, so i was committed.

I really like it. :thumb: this is what I was thinking about for mine.

I used the original Eastwood chassis coat and it was garbage. The coating didn't last a winter till the frame looked exactly the way it did before. But now having a better education about paints I went for the 2K ceramic chassis coat and I can already tell its far superior and will last.

now showing...
street & performance headers
TNA cross member
classic industries hitch
new poly transmission mounts
linex'd transmission cross member

the headers are not installed, it was just a test fit. thats why they are angled inwards so much.

check out the clearance with a TNA cross member. i'd recommend it for any LS swap as long as your truck is lifted.

Please do your engine a favor and get rid of that fram oil filter

This is a crack and it's common on the blazer frames.
Deal with it now.

so i have heard some people have death wobble after swapping over to cross over steering? i have heard the best fix is a track bar for the front axle?

how dependable is cross over steering with no track bar? i know there are a lot of other factors at work to create death wobble.

thanks
