I think it is everywhere.
I work for a company that does over 100 million in sales every year. And the deep winter months are slow. And from april to end of summer we get massively busy. Then it starts to slow down into the fall and then winter months it drops way off.
Same thing in the parts business. Althought thats a little more obvious.
I think its a combination of a few different things for us.
Snow goes away so some guys that were holding off, get to working on things.
Tax returns come in and guys spend that up on some purchase they previously couldn't justify.
Spring fever pushes some guys to take on new projects.

Got a little time in on the build here and there and got this accomplished,
We formed a piece of sheet metal and cut a notch for it to drop into and welded all the way around on both sides. Being careful not to warp anything very much. This allows the inner fender well to be a bit more complete and keep debris out of the engine bay. Still need to come up with a decent way to go around the shock absorber. Thinkin' some kind of rubber boot.

Seperating the shifters so either one can be engaged without the other. Front Low, Front high, 4wd low, 4wd hi, neutral, rear high or rear low.
more commonly referred to as "Twin Stick". it thru me off at first too.

Very much what I had in mind however, my boot goes through the inner fender on two different planes.
McMaster sell rubber mat that would work for what you want. The stuff I have used is about 1/8" thick and conforms real well.

Got the other inner fender well welded up tonight, however, it still needs the shock hole.
The first inner fender we found one other clearance issue but easily remedy with a little hammer massage.
Soon as these are installed will figure out where the shock absorber reservoir is gona go. Get a hood bolted on and start working on a grill and front bumper.

Could you weld a piece of exhaust tube to the inner fender?
Then again a perfect seal is not really necessary since its not in the interior, there is a large gap a few inches away anyway. It may look ncier to just leave the even gap around the shock.

For your shock "seal" you could use a "witch's hat". Its a rubber cone with a formable metal base that is used for sealing roof penetrations on rubber membrane roofs. You just cut the top of the cone open to the diameter needed to fit the shock and secure it with a hose clamp, and the bottom can be screwed or maybe pop riveted to the fender in your case. I was going to try to use them on the shocks in the rear of my blazer where they come through the floor.
