80's short box, "S.E.R.E." Box permanently attached to the cab.

The plan this week is to set the cab on and get the engine/trans mounted.

If no one has asked you yet, when and if will we see this n the catalog :D and will there be a suburban frame.

As normal your work is absolutely amazing and I want one.

We have been discussing it.

Thanks for the comps. Appreciate that.

Funny looking at the frame now, very familiar territory again. I have had frames to this point more than a few times in the past, so looking at it now, it seems very normal again. It's definitely not, just seems that way. I see alot of stuff coming in the near future that will all be different from the way i've done things previously. Lots of fun to come.

hmmmm, getting envious here!
great progress Kert!

And I thought I was doing good this weekend getting my Wraptor installed and my transfer case crossmembers done. I've often thought about building my own frame just don't have Kert's motivation. That truck is going to be cool can't wait to see the finished product. Thanks for getting me the shims and shackles by the weekend.

Looking good Kert, looking real good. So good I would powder coat the frame once every thing is all fabbed up and fitted.

So it appears that you kept the frame 34" all the way. Going to use the astro steering box?

nice progress and I'm interested to see the changes or new products that come from this build :waytogo:

Looks way awesome Kurt. Great job. It would be really fantastic if this build led to Cummins engine mounts and cross member being sold by DIY4x.

Yep, I did keep it straight.

I was looking at the box on my 1998. I can't see any reason not to use that one. What's the story on the astro van box?

Thanks for the compliments everybody.

Speaking of Cummins engine mounts....

Not much more I can do with the engine mount at this point. Setting the height and set back is a bit of educated guessing right now and I'd rather wait a bit to tack it in place until I can determine those things for sure. You get the basic gist of the mount/cross member.

Right now, i'm trying to figure out how to set the cab in place. The location where the frame is sitting is a bit crowded with not alot of head room. I don't think my hoist is quite high enough to get the job done.

I'll probably end up lowering the chassis as far as I can and go from there. Might just be one of those times where many hands make light work.

Why are you using a ford front axle.

spotted that too,

How much up travel room do you have for the diff before it hits that purdy cross member?

Why wouldn't you use a Ford HP60?

Not as much as i'd like. It's all a bit to fluid to say for sure right now. I'd definitely like to see more space and I can certainly gain more but till the cab is on and the engine is fitted up, i'll leave things as they are. I got the basic design work for the crossmember done. Mods are easy from this point forward.

I'll grab a pic tomorrow of some of the clearances so you guys can see what i'm seeing.

Fablicious!

Astor van box the pitman arm swings in front of the box. Pitman arm goes toward the front of the rig. So it can be used to push an axle way forward

Very cool man

clearance diff to crossmember. Of course, once the engine is set in, this will change pretty dramatically I expect.

forward most cross member. As soon as this was tacked in, I realized it may not work out the way I wanted it to. Need to get some tires on and decide where i'm going with the steering box.

Cab on the frame.

OH, and I had better mention, I added an EZ inch to the front and pushed the axle another 1.5" forward.

I pondered it all night and just couldn't come up with a downside to it. Lots of pros.

More clearance on the diff, more clearance on the rear of the fender and firewall, better approach angles, better driveline angles, due to the offset pin in the front springs the move forward helped my caster angle and I would suppose a weight bias change for the better.

Only downside I could see is steering geometry but considering I have some latitude with the box location, I don't think it will be an issue.

Wheels came back from powder coat today. I'll try to get a better pic tomorrow.

Truss is on the rear axle. Possibly over the weekend I can get the Wraptor crossmember installed.

Got a small crossmember above the rear axle. That particular crossmember is where air transfers from one frame rail to the other. It's the highest point on the frame and about as far away from the pump as can be. Nice little side benefit will be drawing air for the rear air locker from right there.

Rubber body mounts are on the way. Decided to go with Rubber to remove as much vibration from the cab as possible.
