83 Blazer Build

finally getting enough stuff done to warrant a build thread i guess. will post pics of what all i have done so far which includes 56" springs front/back, ORD 4" shackle flip in back with diy4x 6" shackles. front is diy4x weld on hangar and fush mount with 7.25" shackles. custom welded hoop shock mounts in front with bilstein 5125s 4" up-travel-10" down. 14bff in back open right now, and d44 in front open also. 4:10 gears in both. Crossover Steer from skys ORD. Built 454 with a th400-203 case. 35" les schwab tires untill i can afford the H1s/37's. think thats about it now.

question,...im wanting to get away from my 2 saddle tanks and possibly go with a center rear mount stock replacement blazer or suburban tank from lmc. has anyone pulled this off? will it fit between the frame rails and not interfere with anything?

There are a few guys on here that have. And google "blazer tank swap", I want to do the swap too I just have to do it. Blazinzuk?'s."horton " build has one I.think.

You may have filler neck and bed floor issues?

cool thanks for the info ill check into their builds.

I pulled the 42 gallon tank out of my 86 burb and put it into the 73 K5. I had to move both of the frame supports that straddle the tank to make it fit. Easy to do when the body is off, probably impossible with the body on. But it CAN be done!

Nice rig, man. Nice looking rat, love those valve covers

thanks alot.

drove into work tonight and kept hearing a popping sound when i was turning hard. checked into it and found my frame cracked by the power steering unit mount bolts....guess ill be adding a frame repair kit to my list :doah:

my ORD weld in repair kit shows up hopefully in 2 days so i can fix that and my power steering leak in 1 shot, then get my driveline re-tubed, and install my new front bumper with wench! and all during drill weekend... im sure gonna be busy

Your rig looks pretty straight and clean. You going to wheel that thing or keep it purdy? Doesn't even look like you've cut any fenders yet...

gonna wheel it but not before i finish it. only needed to cut the front of the front fenders, with how far forward i moved my front axle it doesnt come close to the rear of the front fenders. will see once i get 37"s this spring though.

how far did you move the front axle forward? what made you go 56s instead of 52s up front? how are the street maners?

ok, that's enough questions...:D

didnt measure how far exactly. but from the 48" lift springs that were centered to the off-set 56's with the short end of the 56's foreward. and i had to weld on an additional hole to the front bracket to get my shackle angle. the leaf pack is 8 leafs + overload and the fush rear mount with 7.25" shackles. rides very smooth on the road/highway. I think the shocks helped that too though. i went with the 56's because i tried 3 different 52's and none of them would keep their arc once i put weight on them,... guessing thats due to my larger engine and other weight in front but the 56's are holding up great.

Sounds like this build will be similar my rig. Keep up the work and take some pictures!:waytogo:

to answer the front axle move it seems it was around 5"s, i had to get my front driveline lengthened 5-1/2 "s. but when installing it yesterday one of the yoke bolts sheared off...so now i gotta get new bolts and easyout the old one. oh. also welded in the frame repair kit for my steering. just waiting on weather to install driveline with new bolts and put my zero rate in the rear as its a lil bit lower then the front. then probably put longer front brake lines/bump stops which are on their way now.

update: new front bumpstops installed. found some bucket seats finally and tore out the bench/carpet. put bedliner spray on the floor and back and have the bucket seats mostly installed. will be putting in my custom 20mm ammo can middle console tomorrow hopefully. and still need to put my longer front brake lines in. will post some pics maybe tomorrow when im done if the weather holds, getting 50-60mph winds all day today.
