'83 K30 - Budget build one ton

The rear hanger needs to move forward 4"...

On a rig with 52s stock, you can throw 56s in using the same bolt hole for the flip hanger... On a rig running stock 56s from the factory, you need to move the flip hanger forward 4" to get the correct shackle angle... That's using 6" shackles... I built some that are a lot like ORD or DIY4X, which ever looks like the beefy stock shackles...

I can take a pic of mine tomorrow if you like... Stock 52 location with 56s, bolt and go...

thats a new one on me guss ill take a better look .I would think that sence it was stright in stock position that it would be stright in the flipped position ? I do want to get some longer diy or ord shackles .

Scott if you buy the material at metal supermarket for your drive shaft and shackle you can bring it by the shop one weekend and we can build it. I have built 3 sets of drive shafts now and so far so good.:D The machine shop is only about 3 miles from my home off 90th and 13th west.

This is using the stock 52 location with 56s... It's sitting off camber, but you get the idea... Everything is welded in place... On a stock 56 spring rig, the hanger is back 4" further...

thanks david ill keep that in mind ,tom wood drivelines got me for 1000 bucks on my last truck ,that dont groove with the budget this time.

rear end allmost finished

got the rear end together and set the trucks wight on the rear spring and the shackle angle looks good to me .I need a little more lift on the back,im thinking 6in shackle + 3in block or 1in EZ inch + add a leaf ?I will do a traction bar in the future .I also need to flip the short end of the spring to the rear still .this thing will be long 136in wheel base !

geten in to the new d 60

this thing is obama riged ! Its welded in all the wrong spots , like the u-joints . one stub shaft is new and all the u-joints are new but welded to the shaft . king pins bushings are new but the seals are obamaed . one side had a new outer axle seal and new dust gard and the other side was gone .The drivers side spring pad was moved 4in in and welded crapy .The good news is the brake pads are new ,calipers are new ,king pins are ok,the ARB works and don't leek air ,I can salvage the spring pad, ring and pinion have a good pattern but has 12thou backlash .I think i can use the rest of the parts or fix them .I think it needs new inner/outer shafts just as well get good ones .What is the ring thing with the holes in it ,never found one on any of the 60s Ive worked on ,only had it on one side ? Shaved the lip off the bottem just to the edge of the cover. changed the rear springs (long part forward ) and it looks better , Ive got the 6in shackles on the way .picks

Ordering new parts

I'm going to start ordering some parts Monday for my axle and another I'm building for a frend . I need all new inners and outers , the ones that are in my axle are way necked down ,never Sean one like that ? My ring and pinion book says that ther were some necked down axles in d60 in 78-80 think that's what I got so that will need to be replaced. I'm going with Yukon inner and outers with the spicer foreged u joint .anyone want to order some shafts or any other parts we already ordering ox locker 3 sets of shafts 4.88 gears, and a bunch of small parts and should be able to get a good deal on a big order ?

more done

gutted the cab of seat ,carpet ,insulation ,and removed the trans hump .found some rust on the pass floor , cut it out and removed the trans and 205 . This is a real b**** by your self .borrowed a trans jack to put in the trans and doubler as one unit . bigger b**** by your self ,when i got the doubler and trans in and a couple of bolts started i found that the lower bolt on the pass side to bolt the trans to the engine block broke off in the block . removed doubler and removed broke bolt and back in with it . going to start on the crossmember now
