'83 k30 Project

looks good.

In the one picture you have the zero rate on backwards, I think you may have caught it later, hard to tell in the pics. Rounded edge goes toward the spring.

Dang it, do I really? I thought it was kind of self explanatory, guess I should have read the instructions.

I've used them before on another truck, can't remember how I had them so talked though now...

Is there any down side to leaving them this way? I just looked at ORD's instructions and they are in upside down. Go figure...

I think the concern is the sharp edge against the spring as the axle twists causing a potential stress point.

DIY4X didn't provide any instructions so I sat in the garage pondering different combinations before I searched around CK5 for clarifications. Pretty common mistake :D

Ten four. I dont feel so bad now, I'm going to let it ride for now, next time I unbuckle the springs for one reason or another I'll flip them and reinstall.

Thanks for the heads up, pics are kind of dark so I'm glad someone paid enough attention to catch it and clarify.

First off...I went back and looked at my 0 rates. The rears are on right, the brain fart was only on the front axle. So now I only feel half as dumb.

Now, Thursday was a half day of work and I was off part of yesterday too, with the extra time we got the shock inboarding crossmember in and mounted up the shocks. So far it feels much better, really digging it. We also got the extended brake lines on to get out of any brake line binding. Also had to adjust the clutch pedal after the body lift.

Also, had my future brother in laws dad weld on some beefy Clevis mounts on the rear bumper so I have some better pull points. Not bad for a case of cheap beer.

Finally we put the bed back on....then found a surprise. :(

Rear half of the driver side of the frame is actually bent down a bit, so now I have a bent frame that will eventually need attention. Not cool. In the finished pictures you'll see the body lines not matching up much at all.

Finished pictures on the maiden voyage. ready for bigger tires. Anyone want to hook me up?

New tires en route, as much as I wanted a 37 or bigger the funds dictated something more manageable. Also didn't want to swap to 16.5" wheels to be able to run military pull offs so snagged some 315/75R16 dick cepek extreme countries with free shipping. Figured at the price they were and with some of the reviews I was seeing they were worth a shot.

stay tuned

New treads arrived today. Range E, 10 ply
Thus far I'm pretty impressed at them for being a "mud terrain" the verdict is out until they're mounted and I can run em.

If they perform like they look we will be in the money. I hear they have dang good road manners, it's off road I wanna see. But hey, they gotta be better than what's currently on the truck

I'm starting to work towards pressure washing the underside of the truck, specifically the np205 and the tranny due to all the grease accumulated around the mating surfaces so I can pull the transfer case and do the twin stick and replace the seals, my question is would you guys recommend going ahead and getting a bearing and seal rebuild kit and doing all of that or just spend money on new seals and wait and see what the bearings look like before I worry about them.

Also, on the sm465/205 combo, are there seals/O-rings between the two on the coupler?

Did you test the 4wd before? I would be tempted to re seal the outputs and run it.

Should be a couple seals in the adapter IIRC.

Yessir I've tested the 4wd and nothing feels out of place. Plenty functional. It's just seeping oil everywhere. I'm thinking just new seals will be plenty but recommendations are always welcomed

I'd seal it and run it unless something is found during the reseal process to indicate otherwise.

I would only replace the bearings that feel rough, or are loud when they spin. Other than that, run them. You will know if there is a problem when you pull the PTO cover off and the magnet is furry, assuming it is still there. Carefully checking that power coupler is a good idea as well, assuming its the older 465/205.

I have a seal and gasket kit coming for the 205 and went ahead and ordered up a coupler reseal kit as well.
I'll inspect the bearings once I pull the two and go from there.
Should have the tires mounted in the morning.
