84 Crew Cab Whatever Build

One step forward and two steps back. The drivers side rocker is now welded up but the cab corner will need to be replaced as well. Uncovered some bondo and a multitude of rust. It's not that bad. Just more than anticipated. Anyways, here's a pic of the rocker... and the cab corner.

So, I've been putting off finishing the 89-91 headlight conversion because of a couple of issues. I had two of 89-91 rad supports at one point and used all the better parts on the other one. This one needed new headlights and parking lights. The other issue was that the original lighting on the seems like it could be improved. I found what looks to be better lighting at LMC. There is a new harness and relays. The harness powers the lights directly off of the battery and is supposed to be a vast improvement over stock. We will see on that one. I can say that the truck looks alot better. Here are some pics. Opinions/observations?

Looks awesome, if i get rid of the phantom grille on. I would buy those from LMC.

Let us know if they are brighter then stock.

I've been running those same style LMC headlights for years on my K10, definitely a worthwhile upgrade. I added the relay setup for them and now the headlights are waayyyy bright.

Those of you who live in dry, rust free climates should be thankful that you don't have to deal with this. I'm no body guy but I think it is turning out ok. Still need to smooth it out before it gets paint. The nice thing about these cab corner replacements is that they are the same exact size so, it was able to be butt welded. I've seen some other that were made to go over the existing and then you need to smooth out the overlap hump. These look like they have been there all along other than the weld fill in between the rocker and cab corner.

Thanks for the tip. I need all the help I can get, especially with body filler, lol.
page 3 starts my cab corner work on 2wheel burn . . . if you wana see the steps .

and if you do lots of body work there is easy grind wire for mig welders . DONT try and use it as regular weld wire tho . . . I tried the plug weld nut to broken bolt trick twisted off easy . . but body panel welding together = good stuff.

Nice job! :waytogo:
Looks much gooder!
Thanks and thanks. It isn't anything fancy I know. Just experimenting and trying to learn how to do it more than anything. Now that it is painted it is easier to see things that I could have done better. But for what this truck is, it will be fine. The front panel of the bed is painted now too. So, the bed is back on. Might start putting doors/fenders back on, and hooking up the gas tank/taillights if there is enough time tomorrow. In any case, it is nice to have the rockers behind me. It almost looks respectable again, lol.

Got the doors and fenders on and lined up. Bolted the bed down and attached the gas tank.

I keep thinking this truck would make a good shop truck... if only I had a shop, lol. And now, I am fascinated with idea of getting one of those old shop truck decals for the doors. I've been searching the net but have yet to find anything like what I'm thinking of. Something like an old Texaco logo with a shop name or something. I did find some interesting Sasquatch Response Vehicle decals though. So, I guess there is a plan D if it comes to it, haha.

I am going to have to look into that headlight harness deal for my 91 V3500 3+3. It looks like you went for the Halogen insert lamps instead of the stock Halogen sealed beam lights. The Halogen sealed beam headlights will probably be discontinued one day anyway.

It's hard to say. I was going to have to put money into it either way. Just wanted to try something new. There's a lot to be said for just pulling into an auto parts store if something happens to one of your lights. And you can still find sealed Halogens made in the USA. The LMC stuff I bought was made overseas. I guess I should have saw that one coming. I never have good luck with overseas products. Maybe this will be different...

Not much happening on the crew cab shorty, but, my 87 AZ crew cab has made great strides. Probably should start a thread on it. Ended up with an 89 crew cab parts truck and took the engine, tranny, tcase, harness, steering column, and pedals into it. Pretty sweet. I'll start a thread when I get some pics.

This where my time has gone. Putting the other crew cab together so it runs and drives. Pushing the crew cab was a real PITA, lol.
