  • Blocked off EVAP (novak kit)
  • Removed oil level sensor and plugged the hole.
  • Plugged oil cooler ports
  • Installed throttle body spacer and L29 throttle body
  • Built throttle bracket for lokar throttle cable.
  • Installed new (used) oil filler neck to replace broken one
  • New water pump & t-stat
  • New cloyse timing set
  • New crank and cam position sensors
  • Replaced a bunch of seals including, mains, timing chain cover, coolant crossover, oil pan, valve covers etc.
  • New alternator, pulleys, belt etc.

The crank pulley/harmonic balancer installation requires an odd ball installer so I had to buy this kit which includes M16x1.5. Lot's of kits with M16x2.0 available locally but the 1.5 pitch had to be purchased online.

oh and btw, a 4" PVC coupler works great for installing the rear main seal.

I had to buy bolts for my puller too. It didn't have long enough bolts for the GenVI balancer.

You better fire the mechanic that put that in there!

That dumb SOB is long gone, I hired a new smarter version of him :rotfl:

For some reason I used torque converter bolts without a flange so I'm not surprised they came loose. I ordered the correct bolts yesterday along with header wrap (protect the transmission), 3" collector gasket for the 2 to1 merge, O2 bungs (need to add an oxygen sensor on the passenger bank). I also placed an order with ORD for FUSH/leaf bushings, 6" front shackles and bolts. Both shackles are bent and the bushings are toast.

I still need to buy the bolts for the engine to transmission, I'm pretty sure they're metric for the 8.1L.

I'll probably stab the engine in Saturday.

Pictures of the bent shackles and destroyed bushings. I'm hoping I have better luck with ORD kevlars and their hardware.

I've been using 3/8" x 2" strap for shackles.

I think you're gonna have yours running before I get mine going.

I think will be my 3rd set of 6" shackles, all have been 3/8" steel. Not sure on the width.

Lot's of little $hit to do still, we'll see.....

I forgot you boxed the frame on this, kind of crazy it still blows through the bushings.

It's cool to see the frame is holding up however that might be why I need to swap bushings at least once every spring. Frame flex would remove some stress from those bushings.....I would think

I've used ruffstuff and DIY4X bushings in the past and I don't think I've used the ORD kevlars yet on this truck so I'm interested to see how they do. I beat this truck pretty hard, even more so when I'm trying to keep up with all my buddies on links and coilovers.

Updates from the weekend.

I scrubbed and pressure washed the the engine bay.

Pulled the Fitech wiring from the truck and tagged the fuel pump and fan signal wires. Opened the box of ORD parts and realized I purchased the wrong bushings and hardware. I run 9/16" bolts, not 1/2" so I swung by ruffstuff for the correct bushings and hardware. Drilled out the ORD shackles to accept the 9/16" bolts and swapped everything over. Also did some paint touchup while the engine was out, some areas around the hoops had little to no paint.

Broke a coil against the booster during the install, otherwise it went smooth. The cross brace that runs between the hoops won't clear the engine so I'll have to build another.
