Next step was to slide the planetary cluster in the ring, install the used bearing and snap ring however I found my bearing was pretty worn. I'm not going to take a stupid risk like that so a new bearing is on order.

However I could work on the other half of the case.

As you'll notice this case came with the shift fork assembled with a bearing pressed in ready for the 241 shift collar.

The shifter should be moved to the outer position and the shift collar is slid into place

Then you slide the NWF shaft into place

Then I flipped it on it's side and gave the shaft a couple taps with a mallet so it slides all the way into the bearing pressed into the case

This is the backside (t-case side) with the shaft slid into position

and then a snap ring (provided by NWF) is put into place

and top that off with a seal that was also provided by NWF

More to come......

The box is $729 but with the figure 8 adapter, billet bearing retainer, mounting foot and shipping it was just under $1100 IIRC.

Not worth the time trying to remake that IMO. They have it figured out, it goes together very well.

Box is just over 8" and the adapter is 5/8"

Here are a few details from the rest of the Eco Box assembly

New input bearing

Bearing slid over the planetary output

Then you slide the planetary into the Eco Box half with the help of a rubber mallet. Then install the OE 241 snap rings on the bearing and the input shaft.

Install input bearing retainer/seal with a thin coat of RTV, you can use the OE retainer if you wish or use the billet NWF sells.

There is a bunch of info on clocking positions most of which apply to hybrid setups such as GM to Jeep, Jeep to GM, Jeep to Ford or whatever else.....

I slid it together based on a GM to GM with a 3" clock up for starters. I'll leave the RTV out and just snug the 6 bolts holding the case halves together until I figure out what orientation I want to run.

Next was to mount the Figure 8 NP205 adapter to the T-case which was done with a layer of Rightstuff gasket maker and the supplied bolts. Keep in mind if you have a round pattern NP205 you won's need this adapter, the Eco Box would bolt directly to the NP205.

Installed the NWF supplied studs in the adapter

I paid a little extra for this mounting foot however it's clearly been made for a minimal clock or stock orientation. So if I use it I'll need to re-drill the holes and notch for the shift rail.

Slid the Eco Box on and snug a couple bolts to keep it in place for mockup

With the Np208 adapter in place, still need to blast and paint that....

The th400 rebuild is done, need to pick that up today along with the new converter.

I'm not sure what you're getting at.

I think it would be a fun thing to make. Am I going to? No. It was just a funny.

Or in the last 10 years any number of folks who have built stuff themselves and ended up getting less for more.

It's something that comes up alot. Not saying you can't build it. Just saying it comes up alot

Drilled out something to make it shift firmer. I felt no reason to get crazy with it, the th400 is plenty strong enough for what I intend to use it for.

I did buy a Derale cooler with a fan along with a Derale temp gauge. Need to figure out how & where to mount the cooler and figure out if I need to plumb it through the radiator.

Again it was just a thought. I get excited to see great parts like that because I'm in the mechanical field. Just because something is difficult doesn't mean it's impossible. Although these parts have there complexity, I deal with wayyyy more complex things on a daily basis. No magic here.

I guess that's hard to understand from the perspective of a wire nut twisting shock absorber.

Hahaha, you have no clue what I do for a living. I am a heavy industrial electrician and work in a GM manufacturing plant. When those fancy machine tools you use need to be installed, maintained, and repaired, we are the ones doing it. Ever think where the world would be without us lowly electricians? Ever experience any kind of power outage? Imagine that 24/7 for your entire life, so you are welcome, nuff said.

My original point is that talk is cheap, especially from an overconfident machinist . . .

Back on topic @skunked thanks for posting pics of the foot. Definitely not going to buy that. They really need to put a pic of that on the website so customers can make an informed purchase

I'm going to mention it to Kris, I might post a pic in the Pirate thread because that would have been useful info to know prior to purchasing.

Picked up the th400 tonight and talked a bit about cooling options. Once I have the cooler in hand I'll make the decision where it will go.

Call me stupid because I may have grazed past this, an Eco box is a 241 planetary inside its own case?????

And dude your shop is like a clean room!

Also wtf is with dudes hating on your occupation? This is the second time in two weeks!

Yes, planetaries of a 241 in a stand alone machined case.

Tell me about it. I don't go around insulting anyone else's occupation without provocation.

I guess a lot of people don't appreciate electricians :dunno:. It is a great and honorable profession and the general public has no idea what the job actually involves. In industry, we risk our lives on a frequent, almost daily, basis. It takes a lot of skill and aptitude to do this job well and go home everyday. Now residential electricians are a different animal. They are typically the bottom of the barrel. :D:rotfl:

Yep I used 241 planetaries however you can use a few different types of planetaries depending on what trans your using.

I try to keep the shop clean but it's been a bitch with all the carpentry projects lately.
