I'm leaving the heads. Pulling the manifold, pan and timing chain cover for a reseal. I already have the summit plugs, bought them a couple months ago. There's an edelbrock manifold for sale on CL for $100 that I might go grab.

Thats not bad...

The new summit ones are like 150. There apparently edelbrock overstock. I ended up with a free 2101 performer.

for big blocks? I'll have to look at that....

I don't really need it but I figured it would save me some cleanup time and seal up some unused smog ports that I don't need.

Make sure the Craislist intake manifold is the right one, as there are three different port sizes.

Thanks. I cross referenced Summit and and for the MarkIV engine (1979 C30 454) and it shows part number Edelbrock 7761 with the following description- Intake Manifold, Performer RPM, Dual Plane, Aluminum, Natural, Square Bore, Chevy, Big Block, Oval Port. Sound right? Maybe I should see if I can cross reference the head numbers to be sure.

I think Martin may have saved me some $$

From edelbrock's website for PN 7761 "Designed for street 396-502 c.i.d. Chevy V8's with large oval-port cylinder heads (1975 and earlier)"

Edit- Confirmed small peanut port is the 2161 Edelbrock. So I'm staying stock.

Thanks Martin

No problem. There are small oval specific intake manifolds. Also the cast iron big block intake is a pretty poor piece.

If I run across a 2161 for a decent price I'll grab it.

Don't forget the tbi adapter.

I just made another summit order. I don't think I've paid shipping in a long time because I always spend over a hundred bucks lol

@80'427 what is the other good peanut port intake manifold?

Edit, how does the tag thing work?

Martin

Put the valve covers back on, soaked it in degreaser and hit it with the pressure washer.

Now I can tear off the pan, intake manifold and timing cover for a reseal.
