Here are some other pics I snapped yesterday after the bed was back on

Damn, what a good lookin' Chevy. Continues to be one of my favorite trucks on this site.

Just make sure you keep the hood ornament.:waytogo:

I think he explained it earlier in the thread, but he may be keeping it to throw off the GM truck spotters on this forum. Looks like it's already fooling some of us. :haha:

Hahahaha, the '81-'82 grille threw me for a loop. Yeah, those will probably work.....

Martin

I actually forgot all about that earlier grille.

Thanks. Took several junkyard trips to find that Diesel ornament.

Ya why the earlier grill?

It's the only straight, unmolested grille I could find at the junkyards. Funny you guys notice that stuff, I pay no attention to it.

lol.....my truck is a hodgepodge all around. 79 K10 frame, C20 Diesel Cab, 454/th350/NP205 with a K5 fuel tank, 14B/D60 and apparently now a 81-82 grille :haha:

Yes there are! That's why I hunted down my diesel Burb.

Another guy on here is selling a clean title diesel single cab for $100 I think. I'm very tempted even though I have nothing to put it on.

Diesel or 1975 and older is the only way I would build one of these rigs :waytogo:

Yesterday AM I decided to tear down the front axle for the inner axle seals that are leaking pretty bad.

I had the 6 point socket, turned out that I needed the 4 point so I went over and picked this up for $20

Pulled the axles out and found one of the U-joints is fubbard, locked in one position with maybe 5 degrees of movement

Getting the carrier out was a bitch! After some prying and a few swear words it came out and I had access to the seals.

Popped the seals out with some pipe from the outside of the axle. Then found out that the seals I had are not the preferred seals :doah:

Today I'll get the correct seals, new U-joint and get this axle back together.

Since I was at a stand still with the wrong axle seals I decided to knockout the fan switches.

Fan One and Fan Two

Do they have an auto position?

Martin

No, but I leave the first fan on all the time.

Originally I had the fans wired to the BMW dual switch but that ended up being a nightmare with leaks and cracked thermostat housing. It's a BBC so I'm always watching the temp gauge anyway :D

So you couldn't get a thermal switch to work?

I'll add a fan switch at some point however I'll need the override switches regardless for river crossings.
