Been driving the truck as much as possible, burned a tank and half running around town in the last week or so :D

Last year I bought a bunch of parts from a guy parting out a K5 and included in the purchase was some tube doors that have been sitting in the garage. So I pulled off the drivers door leaving the hinges mounted to the cab and mounted one of the tube doors to it.

I gave the doors a quick sand job and shot them with some white paint.

My kid thought the truck was even "more rad" now

So my buddy who sold me the 16.5" welds (thought they were 16's) was going to trade me his other set of 16's off the 72 and use the 16.5's but that deal didn't end up working out. Of course I sold the Mickey's last week so I had to buy some wheels to get me by :doah:

16x10's with a 4.25" backspace, I should have these in the next couple of days so I can mount the 37x13.5x16 Interco M16's. I also have a spare military 37" at my buddies house that I need to get mounted on one of my spare 16.5x8 rims.

No rear bumper right now and I wanted to have a couple recovery points for the trail so I picked up these to mount right behind the shackle flip brackets, directly to the frame.

With the e-fans, lights, compressor, stereo etc. I was tapping out the 60amp alternator so I ordered a 140 amp alternator from Summit Racing. That should be here today and I'll install it tonight.

Also I installed a new 850cca battery last week, the one I had wasn't up to the job of turning the BBC.

Last night I was talking to my co-dawg for the upcoming Rubicon Trip and we came to the realization that I should fab up some sliders. I'm thinking of using some 2x6 or maybe 2x4 tied straight to the frame with 2x2. Tie in's to the body will utilize some sort of poly mount design, something similar to what muddysub did on his burb.

2 weeks from this Friday we'll be on the trail :woot:

after pricing out the steel for the sliders in 2x4 & 2x2 I can pretty much buy some sliders. I like this Chassis Unlimited Kit and those guys are about 100 miles from me.

I looked at his sliders and they dont have much in the way of support in the middle of the slider. I got some that had dom bars in the middle for $30 cheaper and free shipping from 4 wheelparts. There trail gear sliders

those are kinda short at 58", I'm looking at 72"

I could always add some tubing.

pulled the trigger on the TG 67" sliders with the mounting plates and gussets. Should be here tomorrow.

Tube doors are looking good. You going to skin them? I think you should.

I was tossing some ideas around last night. Part of me would like to use some of the OE sheet metal to transition from the fender into the door. Or I was thinking I should weld some tabs in the openings and skin those in AL. Then I remembered I have plenty of other sh*t to get done before I hit the trail in 2 weeks :D

I hope those are grade 8 bolts for those tow hooks. I mounted up an identical pair of hooks with some (possibly) grade 5 bolts (they may not have even been that heavy duty) one time and the bolts sheared off and sent the hook flying in short order. Mounted them up again with the proper size grade 8 hardware and they've stayed put for years. Since they came with the hooks themselves, I'm sure they're okay. :D

that's some scary sh*t.

These bolts came with the hooks and they're made by Curt. I am planning on adding a piece of 1/4" flat steel on the inside of the frame so the frame can't tear. These are temporary until I get the bumper w/clevis mounts installed.

That should work just fine. Luckily I was using a chain instead of a strap when the bolts broke, so the hook just fell to the ground and the truck just kinda lurched forward a little. :haha: You never what's going to happen when some good ol' boy tries to pull or tow something.

Always good to expect a failure in those situations so you're not in harms way. Winch cables scare the crap out of me.

couple pics from last night of the new alternator and battery. After reading the instructions for the alternator I realized that I'll need to upgrade the positive wire to 6 or 8 gauge.

all of it scares me when it goes wrong. my rear hoop on my soft top kept a chain from coming inside my blazer last month, broke the tube but sent it up over the roof. just don't use straps like a kinetics rope and they are good, plus a weight on a winch cable and good to go.

Heck yeah. Me too. I tell you what I'm even more afraid of is a come-along cable. Those things get so tight and you can't stand too far away and still work the lever. Yikes! :eek1: Chains are the least scary to me. I've never had any synthetic winch rope, but it seems pretty benign compared to its steel counterpart.

What other parts did you get from the Blazer the guy was parting out? Anything as cool as the tube doors?

I have only seen the synthetic break on a video and it just dropped. Yeah I hate come along's too, I have one but I try to avoid using it.

I bought a bunch of stuff from him but some of it wouldn't work for my application. Here is a quick list of stuff from memory:

1) 4 core Radiator
2) Late model chevy dual fans
3) WFO High Steer Arms and tie-rod
4) PSC Reservoir, Tapped Redneck Steering Box, pitman arm, PSC Ram & two sets of hoses
5) Pac Fab front shock towers
6) Beefy rear bumper
7) Tube doors

I think that's it, he's building a buggy so he was offering stuff at a pretty fair rate if he wasn't going to transfer it over.

Here is a pic of his rig, you can see the bumper I have now.
