Curious to see what's up on the 205. Mine went in real nice on the bench, been preculiar since

Interesting.

I'm hoping some fluid and power through it will make it useable. I was able to get a socket on the rear adjustable detent but I still haven't been able to get that in low.

Same with mine. I've been using low range on the 205 around the neighborhood just to run the shifter. It's getting better

Got back yesterday from my 2.5 week business trip, took an early flight home so I could be home in the afternoon, ended up sleeping 12 hours last night and spent the next 10 in the garage in 100+ heat.
  • Installed the Vacuum brake pedal and bracket I bought from eBay. I'm not getting a firm pedal using my mighty vac.
  • Received my rebuilt steering box from west Texas Offroad. That's installed and bled along with the steering linkage and column
  • Installed a fluid sight on the np205 and filled it.
  • Hooked up the JB fab shifters, not sure what's going on but my front rail won't shift. Might be the adjustable detent is too tight but I can't get a socket on it with the tight clearance against the floor. I was able to shift them on the bench so I'm not sure what the hell is going on.
  • Hooked up the winters shifter which took way longer than it should have. I wasn't getting enough throw from the shifter so after some Google-fu I found a thread on pirate talking about it the directions are ass backwards. Flipped it all around at the transmission, made a couple small adjustments and it's money.
  • Ran the engine and verified the fans are working, played around with the idle and IAC steps and got those where I want them. Engine and the magnaflow sound good. Fans are set at 185 which kept the engine temp under 190 in 100 degree heat at idle.
  • Cut down another fuel neck and got that mounted in the bed. I want to build a sheetmetal box around it later but that's not a priority right now.
If I can get a brake pedal I'll be driving it tomorrow. I want to play around with the shifters more and get that sorted. Also need to flex the suspension and get my front driveshaft ordered Monday.
This is excellent news!

A simple elegance. Lol. Now I feel slightly less intelligent not coming to that conclusion myself.

Well if the 90 was pointing up it wouldn't drain all the oil. Mine is horizontal so in theory most of the oil should drain. I'm also clocked flat.

Thinking a brass T with a sensor in it would've done both you some good

Biggest let down of the cooler.

I removed the small sensor, applied some rtv. I'll report back if it works.

Does it engage if you rotate the rear output?

I let it roll forward in neutral while trying to ram it into high. No dice.
I made a little temporary platform for the shifters to sit on so I can get pretty good leverage. The shift rails are from JB fab so they should work.

What fluid are you running in the '205?

Mine was curmudgeonly and wouldn't shift until warmed up and/or spun forward and backward a bit. On the advice of some threads on Pirate, I added like a quart of Lucas tranny additive to the gear oil, and now it shifts like butter right outta the gate. :deal:

OTOH, if you're already running ATF I donno that it would need the less-viscous addition :dunno:
