Could the timing be the cause of the rich readings? You would think that late timing would have the mixture still burning in the header, such that more oxygen was present, but it's also a kind-of-known thing that advancing the timing makes the same AFR read leaner. It makes sense from the standpoint that retarding makes less power and therefore needs less fuel. The question is how profound is this effect? 25%? Every time the timing drops the O2 signals go high. Unfortunately, we can't see what the pulsewidth is doing.

I think the timing is causing the rich readings simply because the short fuel trims are following the timing drop. Right at 1850 rpms the timing drops 20 degrees and the short fuel trim drop to negative 17.
Does the timing dump just based on TPS, or is it kicking in at 1600RPM? I think there are a couple of thresholds there, like abuse mode.

If I keep the rpms low it won't drop off, it just lugs away at low rpm. More throttle, the harder and faster it falls on it's face. Keep in mind I wheeled this way for several days and ran 50+ gallons of gas through it.
Is it possible this is a transmission error? Like it wasn't properly set up for no VSS and no auto transmission control? It wants to shift or is waiting for the shift to finish, but it never does and it's stuck in torque management.

@Bent77 brought that up as well. As far as I can tell and understand, all that shit has been disabled. It was also discussed on the phone with Howell today however I really don't know for sure what tune I have, only what they think I have based on their records.

I just received a shipping confirmation from Howell, the PCM will be delivered tomorrow AM.

I would monitor injector pulsewidth to see what it’s doing too like blue said.

I thought one of the things they do is turn off torque management.
I know Larry did
Torque management is off. As should be Burst Knock retard. Which is a question mark. The fact the timing drops with throttle input is similar to burst knock retard. But I don't remember BKR being that aggressive. It's a good question to ask if you talk to Howell again. Though I'm certain it's a pretty common thing to kill from a factory tune.

"Torque management" is a category containing lots of things - even traction control. Yes, tuners usually make adjustments, but they're not going to publish exactly what numbers they're changing. I'm just saying that something is wrong with this setup, so it seems fair to question the assumptions.

Torque management has a lot to do with drive by wire throttle control too. By not having a dbw setup to delay the throttle opening they almost have to turn it off.

new PCM installed. No dice :surepal:

slight improvement, and not sure why, but it doesn't bog quite as bad as it does with the other PCM. I had to get back to work so I didn't have a chance to data log.

Have to see all the pop up tables on torque stuff, but I don’t see anything that tells me it’s off.

The spark retard graph peaks my interest.

check out the definition provided in the bottom of the gray box.

[ECM] 12851 - ETC Torque Mgt Cylinder Disable vs. Mode: During ETC Traction control strategies the PCM may disable injectors in order to control engine torque. This table is an 8bit binary Enable Mask. A value of 0 for any bit means that cylinder will be disabled. A value of 255 means all
cylinders will remain enabled.

I would try making these all 255.

Disclaimer! I am just a rookie on this hp tuners stuff myself. But I have been able to get two gen v’s working playing with shit like this lol!

I wonder if he has that tune and can email it? I would love to see that data for comparison.
He should be able to. Hp tuners has a good compare function. You can toggle between tunes and also toggle a difference button

Any possibility this may actually be a LEAN misfire? That can show up and smell like running rich sometimes.

Have your misfire tables been nullified?
