454?

4.....5.....4

That's what has been on my mind lately. I know a guy who has an 454 built with all the good stuff pushing 600hp and he wants to sell it to me. Sometime I can't control my wants.

Is it legal for emissions where you're at?

Isn't it crappy that that's the first thing that comes to my mind? :mad1:

Well I sold a tractor over the weekend and towed it on a trailer about a 110 miles and then drove the trailer back empty. When I unhooked the trailer my back right wheel locks up when I hit the brakes. Not sure what happened in the drum and I never replaced the rear brakes before. So I just got back from the store with new brake shoes, hardware kit, new drums and wheel cylinders. I can't wait to tear into this on my day off Wednesday.

Ive replaced both of the rear cylinders on my drums, super easy. I have tools for puttin all the drum springs on and off which make it alot easier doing the whole setup, but a screwdriver and some imagination will work:thumb:

Your first time doing drums... you'd better plan a whole day to get them done. Talking from experience, there will be a huge learning curve from the first one to the second :screwy:

Good point... Take the drum off TAKE A PICTURE then tear apart carefully watching how its dissasembled. 1st side will take a while, second side will be bout 15 min:D

Wondering if you had a leaky axle seal. Axle oil on the brakes will make them sticky. If it looks wet in there don't put the new brakes in you'll just ruin them. Replace the seals first.

OK, took the problem wheel off to see what was going on, smelt gear oil right away, everything looks good so I am going to have to pull the axles to replace the seals. While in there I might as well replace the bearings. I got to thinking more, since I have to pull cover, remove axles, replace seals and bearings, I might as well re-gear the front and rear to 4.56:1 due to the 35" tires I have running on the 3.73:1. So the big question is I don't know what exactly to order. I have a 10 bolt front:

And a 12 bolt rear:

I am thinking Richmond Gears, but I am not sure which carrier is in this thing and not sure what exactly to order, any help would be great (links as well). Code tag on the fender say 1g80 locking differential with 3.73:1 gears. I don't mud or extreme trailing. Mostly a weekend pavement and some mild trailing vehicle.

G80 is the gov loc.
Not bad on stock tires but with 35" tires I don't know how much I would trust that one.

Well, the original rear had a G80 in it. That being a 12b makes it quite possible the rear axle has been swapped out. It could be original, or it could have been a 10b.

Only way to know for sure is to pull the rear cover and see what's in there.
