'84 K5 Build (Midlife Crisis)

Look at this poor thing. Just sitting there ready to be pulled. Dreaming of smoking 35's like she was built for. That stupid bbc will barely break a tire loose in the rain.

Not that beater gen v. BBC is too expensive to build anyway. I've always been and always will be a mouse guy. The only reason I have that fat rat is cause it came in the blazer. I figured i'd give it a chance but she's about wore out her welcome.

Heres's my other mighty mouse, hiding in the boat.
This one's been dyno'd- 426 hp 452 tq. Gotta run 91 though.

Keep this up. I like the smell of race gas...

My neigbor came down and helped me drink some beers and we got the hydro clutch pedals installed.
:saweet: Now I just have to clean up and reroute some wiring. The blazer is an '84 so there was nothing for hydro clutch holes. Although i removed a factory wiring grommet and thats where the master cylinder ended up going. Everything lined up perfectly in the end. I was able to replace the little plastic bushings from my old brake pedal into the cluth pedal. Like new now. :D Gonna be kinda funny with a clutch pedal and a shifter on the column. 3-on-the-tree anybody? Lol

Do you have pics of said hole? I think I have one wire in that hole..

Damnit, steve I didn't take a pic before i pulled it.
There was three rubber grommets. One with the speedo cable, one with four wires I think and the one i removed. I think it was cruise control maybe.
But the master cylinder fit right in and I only had to drill the two mounting/stud holes.
Im so mad I didnt take before pics. This pic isnt mine. Ill take one tomorrow.

No I made it out ok, just 30 bucks lighter. Damn engine is still getting hot.

Have you replaced the thermostat?
Yeah. New 180 stat, water pump, radiator.
Im not sure whats going on.
I need to take a step back and verify some things.
My vacum adv canister is up against the intake so i need to move the distributor a tooth so I can advance it more. Ive read that low compression slugs like this needs lots of advance and retarded ign is a big heat creator. Im also going to pull the plugs and look. Could be lean too. I was able to manually close the choke more than half way and it drove fine. This thing makes 210 hp. Its not like were trying to cool a fire breathing monster.

Does it get hot just idling? Or when you're at a mid-higher rpm range for a longer period of time?

It gets over 210 just sitting there idling. Dual 15" fans blowing hot air like a tornado. It did seem to hold at about a needle width over 210 with the new radiator though. With the old radiator it would keep climbing and id have to shut it off.
Whats bugging the shit out of me is something has changed because it has always ran warm but didnt start this major overheating till a couple weeks ago. Maybe its just the ambient temps pushing over the edge now.

Ive built alot of trucks in my life and ive never had an engine make this much heat. I really think it may be fubared.

when I had that problem it was the thermostat (brand new stant). Took it out, put the old one back in and it was fine.

What's the base timing at?
