'84 K5 Build (Midlife Crisis)

Just playing with possible bracket locations. Where it is in this pic would give me around a 44” lower link and the pivot point is close to inline with the rear output flange. Not sure if the lower link would hit the frame before the axle gets to bump though. Guess we’ll see.

Must. Take. Notes......
Haha this is just a little mock-up to get the juices flowing. I think I’m going to have to old school flare the fenders to get more stuffage. Tires are up against the body and I have more room on the axle once I remove the old bump stop brackets.

Did you water your jack stands lol

The new rear hub looks good!

I'll bring those axle skates up so we can try them out. I wasn't thinking when you stopped by, should've grabbed them.

Well I have about 18 rivets to knock off in my future.
I wish that I could come help! They don't bother me much!

You did call me crazy, maybe this is more proof.
:dunno: :D

My air hammer works well. I found out that I need to put one slice in the rivet head, otherwise it will shoot it across the garage. :eek1:

Can't wait to see how fast this goes!

Yeah me too. I cut a slice first. I have a janky old air hammer but it seems to work well enough. I just have to wait for the kids to get done with stupid online school. It makes too much background noise. :surepal:
Put the fukers back in the classroom where they belong then. :angry1: Can’t even work on my own shit in the middle of the day.

Swing by the shop and grab the air hammer if you want. I'd come up but I'm heading North till Sunday

If not I'll come by Sunday to help, I'll check in when I get home.

Well, @Desert_K5 loaned me his air hammer and it blows mine out of the water. I blew off all 18 rivits about as fast as I could move around the truck.

Awesome! That's what I found with my Matco long barrel.
Now we need to start a timer for when you get this all done!
:saweet:
Well This is gonna take a little longer I think. Once I get the links sorted out, I can measure for shocks. Then once I have the money, I can order them, that usually takes 6-8 weeks. There’s plenty of other stuff to do though. I need to work on the rear half of my cage and tie it all into the frame via some sliders. Also need to design a skid plate setup too. :saweet:

What did you use for the chisel in the air hammer?

A while back I picked up a quality air hammer myself hoping for similar results on rivets. I figured a good chisel for it would make a big difference too.

I used the plain smooth chisel that came in the kit. Cut the heads right off. Then I used the pointed one to poke them out.
