It’s a fun trans to work on. Heavy though. I’m a little sore this morning!I need to do that.
I have a truck with a 2wd nv4500 that is bad.
No idea what but I probably should open it up and see
My options are to get one rebuilt at $1600-2000It’s a fun trans to work on. Heavy though. I’m a little sore this morning!
The rebuild kit is not cheap. I bought the premium kit from Torqueking and it was almost 8 hundy. But at least you know it’ll be done right. My options are to get one rebuilt at $1600-2000
or just rebuild it myself.
I will see how busy I get
Yeah me too. I love big mechanical junk.I enjoy gear work like that, especially when you get to drive it and experience the results!
Nice work!
It should be for what I got in it!That thing is like new now.
Tight like a Tiger!Got that 5th gear nut on tight?

Did you try rotating the shaft back and forth to help unload the stress on the splines to liberate them?Hit a snag on disassembly. Went to remove the magnum/205 off of the transmission and it’s stuck. It slid back about 3/4” and stopped. It appears the splines are hanging up somehow. We had a ratchet strap pulling as tight as we can get it and me and my brother prying from both sides with bigass pry bars. She’s stuck good. Only thing I can think to do is get two portapowers and press it off.![]()
Oh yeah. We spent an hour wiggling and prying. I’m thinking the nose of the female spline magnum input bottomed out against the 465 mainshaft nut and boogered it up. It’s the only thing I can think possible.Did you try rotating the shaft back and forth to help unload the stress on the splines to liberate them?
