84 k5 CTD

I've noticed that all the build threads like this I've seen all start with a K5 that had a diesel engine in it. Are there any reasons for this or is it just a coincidence? Is there any major differences with performing a swap on a K5 that originally had a gas engine?

My K5 was originally a gasser and overall I don't see any real reason to start with a diesel, unless you already have one or can get a great deal on one. Hydro-boost is not needed, as most 12 valvers in Dodge trucks used a vac operated MC and because of the generally large exhaust comming off of the turbo the fuel lines have to be relocated anyways. I will be using a fuel tank from a gasser with modified pick ups and lines.

Subscribed and bump for updates. Nice K5 for a build. Thinking of putting one of these in a 71 K5 I have. Thanks for the motivation .

Well I haven't touched it in a long while but hope to get back to it this fall. Been building/Wheeling my CUCV Truggy

Did you use the dodge radiator ??

I mocked it up originally with a Summit racing aluminum radiator but probably gonna use the aluminum radiator in the truggy and the stock 1st gen Dodge radiator in this one.
I'm actually gonna use a completely different core support so I can just start over as far as that goes. I also have access to a power-stroke inter-cooler so I may see how well that fits when the time comes.

I have a Complete Second Gen donor so I'll probably just get an Aluminum gas radiator ,

Very cool project by the way

Do you have any more info on the high mount AC? Is that a factory part or a fabricated part? Where did you get it? Thanks.

Yeah it's all factory stuff and was around 600 for everything, it's been to long for me to remember.

I met a guy last summer who did the same conversion but pulled all his stuff from a ford out of a big truck wrecking yard. He paid around 300.00 for his stuff, the only differences were the lower water outlet, an easy fix but I think he just left it or modified it.

Anyway if I were to do it again I would definitely get more familiar with my local big rig wrecking yards to save some coin and get more ideas.

Buddy "also on here" is going to be making some more of these, he used the same vintage motor.

Thanks for the info. Still debating if it is worth it in this climate .
