I'm running the typical Spectra replacement unit. Aluminum/plastic, like any modern car (they used to offer brass replacements, but not anymore). I bought mine through a national retailer (I think it was Advanced/Carquest) because they offered a lifetime warranty. Autozone/Oreilly/Advance/Napa are constantly trying to undercut each other on pricing/coupons/shipping, so you may find one of them has a lower price and an easy warranty exchange program (compared to Rockauto or Amazon). Worth taking a look at.

So far rock auto is the cheapest but I have to see the shipping.
 
So changed the power steering pump and radiator and the power steering works smooth idling in place and even when I stepped on the brakes but couldn't get a test drive because the lift pump decided to leak like a sieve.
So I ordered a replacement after I tried everywhere local within a 70 miles radius.
It just got here today so I will hopefully get it in Monday.
Getting closer
 
Changed fuel pump, what a pain in the ass.
So no more fuel leak, test drove it and brakes work good with power steering so that was a success... but, now I have a leak from the thermostat housing gasket.
I thought I had a gasket but couldn't find it.
I will get on it Monday.
One thing I need to figure out is the downshifting, I punch it and it will not downshift, if it loses power it will down shift and all the shifts are low rpm like all diesels I have driven.
I know I adjusted the tv cable properly but I will double check it again when I am working on it next
 
If it is not one thing it's the other.
Now the noise that was faint is more pronounced and I am getting uneven heat in the radiator side to side and some pressure build up.
Looks like water pump is going.
It's now also leaking from the weeping hole.
But I got to drive it around and I like the ride and the power.
It feels comfortable, it's no rocket but it moves
 
So for those who didn't follow In the garage, I found out I had a leak from the combustion chamber in the radiator and I took a chance to check and tighten the head bolts and it paid off.
Stopped the leak and in the process also tightened the injectors, I guess the new copper seals compressed and I had leaks from a few.
Now it's all nice and tight and no leaks anywhere.
I also changed the temperature sensor and thermostat, not without trouble and I still don't have any working gauges or taillights so I think a power problem.
Might be a fusible link, easily checked.

I seen a guy accidentally swap intake and exhaust valve cams on a dual overhead cam 4 cyl Mitsubishi Fuso diesel once and it ran but was using intake for exhaust and exhaust for intake due to switching the camshafts.

It does.
It runs and drives but I haven't fixed the problem with the popping and smoke.
I have been working on other vehicles and getting a break from it.
I will soon pull the intake off to see which side the popping is coming from and I will be able to dive in and figure it out.
 
I thought I had updated this already but I guess not.
I ended up pulling the intake again and realized it was again leaking exhaust, pulled the heads and the gaskets were done.
I got some 6.5 l head gaskets and bolts and it ran good.
I ended up putting it in storage until now.
I got it out and started working on it again.
I put new batteries on it and manually turned on the glow plugs and it fired up.

And then I started putting some newer tires on it, had these LT285/75/16 bfg AT KO2

I ran out of light for the rest, I will continue today and then start going though the electric issues, some of lights don't work, I am going over all the grounds.
Also some gauges not working

I am trying to clean it up and use it while I list it for sale.
If it sells fine if not, I will be using it.
I did have some fun with it yesterday, with the turbo it can peel the tire off on take off on this parking lot, it's compacted aggregate base.
 
Got all the tires on, balanced with ceramic beads.
Got the glow plug controller working, the blue wire had a section not working, I replaced a 2' section.
Works perfectly now.
Got the hood latch and tailgate latches oiled and working.
New wipers, and got the connections on the motor cleaned and working.
Still trying to figure out where the problem is with the heater fan, and the temp and oil gauges.
I will need to change the speedometer, the needle broke.

Took it for a drive, it leaks from front of the oil pan.
I will check it out tomorrow
 
IIRC, I've swapped needles on the gauges before.
