'85 K10 Project "Yellow Truck"

Proper coax, ground and swr do wonders for the 11 meter band.

Thanks I need to get a swr to tune mine. also gonna pick up another antenna the one I have was something that has been tossed around for a number of years. I thing I got it it at a flea market or garage sale when i first started driving and it was used then.

Being in redneck ville, you should have an old school cb shop at a truck stop. All antennas try and mimick a 104" steel whip. I run and like a 4'Firestick, tuneable and will let u run WATTS, I run 250 on AM and 300+ on side band.

Proper ground. Run the radio/amp off the battery, acts as a filter and it's clean power. Ground the coax shield.

Get a GOOD radio, older 148s,Grants,2510s are what u seek!

Astaic mike, nuff said.

Coppers electronics, Google it.

I have a shoe box of DX cards from my mobile SSB contacts from around the world. Nothing like wheeling and talking to a guy in Austrailia .....

If you need cb work I have a guy I send my stuff to in Oregon and have done bizz with for 20'years. He will answer questions also, good dude.

I really want a CB on my burb for handy communication during wheeling, the large antenna not so much though. I guess its research time for a small antenna, because these are very handy.

4 foot Firestick on a spring, fender mount.

Shortest option? Im really not looking for the ability to conversate with aliens and someone in Alaska, but 20+- miles wouldnt hurt my feelings.

20, ain't going to happen with an off the shelf CB. AM 11 meter is basically line of sight. OR "skip", where your signal bounces of the atmosphere. But with the limited 6 watts, it ain't going far. SSB (single side band) is 12 watts. SSB goes a HAIR TO THE UPPER SIDE AND LOWER SIDE of the prescribed channels frequency.

No matter what AM is line of sight. But for skip.

A 4 foot Firestick with a proper spring is the perfect mount in my humble opinion, u can tune it for low SWR, it will flex when u hit a branch, it will take "AMPS" when u get a amp, or if u do, running POWER on 11 meyters is a no-no..

18 feet of RG 8 coax, a spring, fender mount, good ground, I can just about garuntee, a good tune.

I've run this rig for 20 years, it TALKS!! And sounds GREAT, on the trail I dial it down. It's on it's way to Oregon to get a new on/off switch now. Is it legal?? Hell NO!! And I don't care.

Bought me a ring & pinion for the front axle. Still keeping the 10bolt. For the install kit are they the same for the front and rear?

Everyone asks since its completely flat in that area.
This happened on a main country road so i was probably going about 60 or so. There was a box truck in front of me that slammed on its brakes but had no brake lights so by the time I realized what was happening I jumped on my brakes while veering to the right and the rear locked up. Which put me in a slide and there was a side road with about a 6" lip of blacktop I caught it with my right front tire and it sent it over on its top. Funny part is that the whole area is flat and I catch the one part that sends me over. So I kid with everyone that I can flip a truck over on flat ground. LOL
But the lucky part was I was about 5 feet or so from hitting the gas meter that was in the cemeteries front lawn. And yea thats where I landed was on the front lawn of a cemetery. My step grandfather is buried there and I always kid that I wanted to see him again but not in that way.

This is quite a story! :eek1:

Given your interest in tweaking radio performance, have you considered playing with the ham bands? You'd have a lot more options for performance and capability.

None of this line-of-sight stuff... :haha: :rotfl:

Have thought about it but just don't know anything about them. Are they compatible with CB bands? I know the guys I wheel with in my area all use CB radios.

Got the Ring & Pinion for the front. 5.13 Gonna get the rear after Christmas.

Like your build, seems to have come a long way since youve had it. Love squarebodies myself. I gotta 85 1/2 ton custom deluxe. 350sb 650edelbrock carb, 8in spring lift, 36 12.50 irok tsls, 12 bolt rear, 10bolt front. 3.73 gears. 4spd trans 208 transfer case. Still in the works, only had it almost a year. Gonna drop a 400sb in it sometime this year and switch to a 700r4 trans so i can have overdrive. Would love to be kept up to date on yours.
