'85 K10 Project "Yellow Truck"

Made a little progress this weekend on the truck. Got the bushing sleeves out of the old leafs. Man that was not fun even with an air hammer. Got the new poly bushings installed and the leafs hung and even managed to slide the axle under neath it to see how it looks. Still have to torque everything but definitely diggin the new look.

Also went and got another component this morning.

This will fit nicely with this:

But that project will have to wait for a bit. Lol

Too late now but once you are left with the sleeve, stick a screw driver or better yet a chisel under the sleeve until it peels off and folds inward, once mastered this technique will remove even a rust welded sleeve in minutes

Been working on this again. Got tired of trying to work on it on weekends I can make it down to my other house. So I got me a 93 6.5L Dually with a gooseneck so I can haul this around. I think this set up looks really good. :pimp:

I was happy that the truck fit really well on the gooseneck and it towed real easy on the 150 mile ride home.

So with being at my current house it has been nice to be able to work on it from time to time. Amazing how little things add up after awhile.
Been cleaning the truck out and fixing a bunch of little things.
Dirty cowl. Not sure how all that mud got up there.

Got the front 52" springs all freshened up with the a set of ORD offset plates set to push out the front axle 1.5"

Got the last piece I needed for the D60 front axle regear

I picked up an A-bomb bumper for when I rip off the old front leafs. Since it is a winch bumper it needs a winch right?
Went with a harbor freight due to the superwinch I wanted was on backorder with all the COVID crap. Ill see how this does and worse case I put the harbor freight on the trailer and get the superwinch I want a later date. But the idea is to not need the winch right? lol

Had to go back and grab a trunk full of parts and tools for the front revamp. Bumper and the homemade hydro assist

With the new bumper has to remove the old offroad lights.
Got me a set of Auxbeam 12" Led flood lights. Went with a set of 12" ones since I didn't want to remove the center brace behind the grille. I went back and recenterd the lights but didn't take a pic. It was bugging the crap out of me.
Think they turned out really great and damn are they bright!

Also got my new warning sticker in. Gotta be safe. lol

Stinks not having a garage or a full paved driveway but me crying about it wont make it happen either. Just gotta suck it up! I like to pretend I'm out doing trail repairs. LOL
Been messing with the ignition system of the truck Just about got it lined out. Truck has always had a running problem. Went thru and swapped out the distributor, plugs, wires and adjusted the timing. Its almost ready to hit the trail. Cant wait its been too long since this has seen and mud and rocks.
Got an event at the beginning of October with Southern Fourwheel Drive Association at windrock. Then another event in November in Slade Kentucky. There is a benefit ride in Sept at Windrock, just not sure how ready it will be for that one. Guess it all depends if I push off doing the front leaf swap with the D60 swap also. We shall see.

Worked on the truck today. Good and bad results. But ain’t that they way it goes. Lol
Good:
I installed the ORD steering brace kit with no hiccups.
Bad:
Next was time to move forward with the a bomb bumper. With much cussing and hand smashing I got the frame cleaned and painted ready to receive the new bumper.
After much frustration finally got to this point only to find the holes don’t line up.
it seems as thou I have a blazer bumper not a truck one. Gonna have to give Kurt a call and see what we can do about this.

Actually you got the wrong years.
There's two patterns on the front frame horns:
73-80 and 81-91

Yea did some research today and found out must have gotten an earlier one. Figured it out when I saw the bushing hole. So after some searching and figuring gonna drill the new holes needed in the frame and get a set of early model core support bushings and run it. Bought the bumper over a year ago so just gonna live with it.
If that doesn’t work I’ll just run big fat welds lol.

After some more research and looking it appears that there is too much difference for my liking to make the abomb bumper work. So bolted the old mount back on and went forward with more projects. I have another bumper on order but big back order time. Will be selling my current abomb but this will be after the other one shows up.

in the meantime
Defanged the front end.
got my tablet mount done. Should be a lot nicer for keeping track of trails.
it is on the road! So nice to drive it down the road. Truck has been dormant for 8 years due to family and job duties.
Time for poser shots. :pimp:

going to Windrock next weekend for the SFWDA Dixie Run gonna keep it pretty tame as a lot has changed, but very excited to get back to the dirt.

Truck has been running like crap, well for as long as I can remember. Since the motor was rebuilt after I rolled the truck many years ago. Been trying to figure out why to no avail. Well after the total crap show the had last weekend at Windrock I was bound an determined to figure out what was up before I yanked the motor out and set it on fire. Lol

After much diggin around found out the dampener was not correct for my block. 85’ish dampener 89 block.

Took the timing chain cover off to make sure the chain was installed correctly.

Well without the correct dots in alignment and the timing mark on the dampener being off it is amazing the motor ran at all. Well it did just not worth a darn. Well see how it does once I get it all back together.

Got it all straightened out and wow it runs so much better. Very smooth.
Ordered a seal kit for the steering box as this one leaks like a mofo. Might finally be getting a good grasp on this project.

Ok 2 year update:
After the dismal performance me and the truck need some time apart. Wasn’t all it’s fault I was running a Welded front diff with push pull steering linkage. Locked in 4wd the wheels would not turn, only take up the slop.

During my hiatus I started gather parts for the d60 I have had laying around. Going to do it right and not be cheap and take shortcuts. Turned out to be so nice after the last outing.

while that went on bought another house that had a large garage with it and came with a two post lift. This has been so nice.
Anyways built the front axle swapped it out, installed ORD crossover steering, FUSH, DIY4x winch bumper(correct one this time) & a 12,000 badlands winch. And went thru the carburetor way nasty.

with two days to spare went out and rode the DBBB (Daniel Boone back country byway) was the only square there!
Truck performed awesomely, now granted I did the tamer stuff, but this was a shakedown run. But after the motor & front axle woes any run was a good one.
got lots of compliments on the truck over the two day event. Even got a little rubber duck from someone (whatever they mean lol)
this was a good stair step on day one. Was not aired down at all, would have been better if it was but we did a lot of on & off road driving the first day.

But all in all I have got the off-road bug with the truck again. More improvements to come now that I know we have a good starting base to work with.

Glad you're back at it again. @chris85 doesn't seem to come on the site much nowadays but he's run some of the DBBB in his old Jeep.

Watch the regional forum, @ktmoutfront was talking about putting together a group ride to Windrock in '23.

New tires arrived today. Stepping up to 37” but going narrower from 15.5” to 12”. Would like to have stayed on the wide side but getting these off the blemish list I was happy with the savings. Sometimes my wallet makes the decisions in my life.
plus my current tires have some good dry rot and are about 20 years old so this will make it a little safer on the road.

How did the 12000 badlands fit in the bumper?

After fighting a fuel issue for over a year. the truck is finally good and dependable again.
went on a trail ride last year in November and had to get towed off the trail (fuel pressure issue). Came home and never had it happen again drove it all around. truck Pissed me off so I just parked it for awhile while I worked on other projects.
So this year we decide to do the November meet and greet ride in slade ky again. Been doing this event for about 8 years now. Figure probably need to dust it off and look at it again with fresh eyes. Still didn’t see much that would cause issue. Did replace The transmission with one I rebuilt which helped another big issue I was having.
Did a pre run and even drove it out to the trail which was great. Truck did great on the trails but on the way home ran into the fuel issues again. Swapped out a fuel filter which looked liked mud got me thinking what would cause that. Got about 30 miles from home and the truck wouldn’t run. Again looked like mud in the other fuel filter. I had brought a fuel filter and fuel pump with me. 3hours later on the side of the road fuel pump changed was able to get home. Had my wife and kid with me which didn’t help my stress level.

Got home and had two weeks to get the truck back on the road. whole new fuel system (tank, fuel pump, filter, and new rubber lines replaced). Turns out that was the problem. I even installed an Electric fuel pressure gauge to monitor and I was gun shy as hell.
Well I’m happy to say the truck performed perfectly that whole weekend. Only had to bang on the carb needles only once the whole weekend. I know I need to crack the carb back open and take a look at the fuel bowls.

Anyways glad to have my truck back again, and now for the photo dump. Lol
