'85 on big tars.(pics & video)

Is that still going to be there in April?

I hope to have it done before April. Hard to say. We still have a big question mark hanging over the intercooler.

Seen this thing posted on Pirate. Hadn't seen it a few years, good to see it's out of your shed.:thumb:

I'm getting the itch to get a rig going, is there any place to actually go fourwheeling around here???

Down by Des Moines there is a spot. Then another over in the Sioux city area. Mostly Sand from what I hear. Then a spot, 4-5 hours north of us in Minnesota. Can't remember the name of that place.

Yeah I know of Gilbert or Apple Valley. Would like to find something with in an hour or 2, not 5.

Little more battery cable work again tonight. Ran short on 3/8" cable ends so that put a stop to that project.

Hope to have the battery cables finished up this week and possibly the plumbing for the full hydro steering with the exception of plumbing in the resevoir.

If all works well, i'll be able to get further on the wiring over the weekend. Once the wiring is done, i'll post an ammended "to do list." It's getting shorter!!

Pretty much finished up the batt. cables last night. Only one left is a winch power cable. I can add that one at any time.

Tonight i'll do some measuring for hydraulic steering lines. Shouldn't be to much to have them on Friday evening.

Hopefully some parts show up today and I can continue with some small projects that have been testing my resolve.

Nothing picture worthy lately.

Had big plans to get the hydraulic steering done today. Had my measurements for hoses ready to go. The only guy at the auto parts store, I wouldn't trust him to put a hose clamp on let alone, make up a hydraulic hose so that was a bust. Had a whole shopping list with me and nothing panned out.

That's OK. Plenty of things to work on.

Started in on some more wiring. Got the main instrument panel pretty much completely buttoned up. There may be one change in the future but for now, i'll call it finished.

Switch Panel A is complete with the exception of the air locker "air switch." Switch panel B is as far as I can go without additional lights. I need a pair of lights for the front that are more like head lights. Looking for something with a built in amber "turn signal." Maybe something like a plow has on it.

Mounted the breathers for the 205, 14BFF and fuel tank on the back of the cab. Got the 205 and 14BFF plumbed to it.

Pulled the trans pan for some mods. Was kinda dreading this little project. I have had things like this go horribly wrong, seems welding on the cast aluminum like this is hit or miss, but it worked out well today.

Up till today, we had no place to put a temp sensor to run the electric fan. I have used the probe type but never really been thrilled with them. I prefer the type that thread into a port. With Brett's rad in the rear, we needed that port with the radiator rather than on the engine. We had some left over aluminum tubing from his coolant lines so I whipped up this piece.

Basically an inline temp sensor port. Has a second advantage for us. One of our hoses is just long enough as it is, but perfect shape. With this, I can get an extra inch of so of length out of the hose.

Aside from the wiring, nothing that was completed today was on the list.:doah:

I agree about the prove type senders. I've been thinking about an online adapter like you're going. I think you'll have to ground it.

Did that. Didn't think to grab a picture. All I did was strip about 1 1/2" of wire and then tinned it with solder. Added a second hose clamp behind the primary hose clamp and slipped the wire underneath the hose and secured it with the hose clamp. I had thought about tigging on a chunk of aluminum and drilling/tapping for a small screw but this should work pretty well and very simple.

We built a mount for the winch solenoid box today. I had intended on welding it to the spreader bars of the winch itself. Well, they're aluminum and my sheetmetal mount.... I can weld pretty good but that just aint happening. I really thought they were a chromed steel. So, we made new spreader bars and then welded it up. Got some paint on it and its back on the winch now. Tomorrow evening i'll get the solenoid box mounted to the bracket and get the wires hooked up. Gotta find a diagram.

Then we decided we should get the last of the torque converter bolts in. 3 were in and three were not. This is a left over job from swapping in the 6BT and turbo 400 in place of the 4BT and turbe 350. I nuked a 9/16" ratcheting wrench tightening those bolts.

Got the trans shift cable hooked up and the sending units screwed into the pan. Trans is pretty much buttoned up now. Found a stripped out pan bolt hole. I think I can get a 1/4" bolt and nut on top to make the squeeze. It's near the tailhousing so not alot of room on top but maybe just enough for a 1/4" nut.

Then we took a look at the power steering pump situation. The plan has always been to add a larger resevoir to the steering hydraulics. Problem is the pump that's on there has the breathable cap. We really wanted the res. up higher so that cap was not gona work. Thought about doing the radiator hose trick but that's a no go. This pump has the oval shaped neck. We ended up, cutting off the return line, crimping it shut and tigging the end of the tube for a seal. We used one of our steel 3/8" NPT bungs and tigged it over the fill hole, fit perfectly. Now we can plumb it directly to the resevoir and have the res up higher by the brake booster.

dam, thats some nice work Kert....why is that intercooler still so far down on the list:whistle: :D

And Kerry isn't using his hood anyway, and it looks good on that truck!:waytogo:

Thanks Zim. You know exactly why its so far down on the list, cause its gona bring the suck.

I don't think Kerry would like that plan at all. I had considered cutting down a chevy hood and see how that'd go together. Might be a quicker way to pull things together.

I didn't have much time tonight. I did get the fuel tank vent hose installed as well as the solenoid box for the winch. Figure out the 3 cables that go to the motor and we're in buisness there.

how did you route the fuel venting?

how did you route the fuel venting?

Did a loop around the tank and then down the drivers side frame rail and up the back of the cab. Should do the trick.

2 more quickies off the list. Got the pain in the gas bolt in the hanger and the winch is wired up.

I think tomorrow i'll try to get the CB radio mounted up and the antenna wire and camera cables routed to where they need to be.

Still hitting one a night every night. This weekend should shorten the list. I've been collecting up parts all week for some progress this weekend.

Tonight was the battery cable junction.

Have to add one back tonight though.

Kert was you guys using a 94-98 Dodge intercooler, or something custom?

Gona be something custom.

\Spent some time on the full hydro plumbing tonight. Got one hose on and will have the other to the cylinder on tomorrow.

Worked on the throttle cable as well. I think I may redo the bracket for the cable though. It's close, just not quite the way I want it. Also built a bracket for the grid heater solenoid. A quick redo on the throttle cable bracket and then I can paint both of those brackets and get them installed permanent.

And I just realized the full hydro plumbing is not on my list.:doah:

Starter button wiring, Grid heater wiring, and Electric fan wiring were completed today. Got a good start on the throttle cable and the fuel cut off. Got another line on the hydraulic steering.

Ran into a wierd issue with the pump to orbitrol hose. The fitting in the back of the pump doesn't have a flare in the bottom but the hose that came out of it has an inverted flare on it. The original hose tightened up nicely. Never had fluid to it so I can't say about the seal. The new hydraulic hose was done with the inverted flare and it wouldn't tighten up in the pump fitting. Ran out of threads before the flare would reach the bottom of the fitting the way the factory one did.

Once again, nothing really photo worthy. I may get the wiring done for the CB and Cameras/monitor done tomorrow. Might not. Hell of a hectic week and I may just sit on my arse tomorrow and rest up for a day.
