'86 chevy on rocks-2-14 Dovetailed bed!!

And I ordered a stick of 2"X3" .250" wall rectangle tubing to build my rock sliders and front bumper. I also ordered a stick of Shcedule 80 to build a stinger.

I havent really done much else to the truck. I got the hood mounted down with 3 hoods pins so far. I still need to put on more pin. Also the hood is just a skin. There isnt any more bracing under it so it is really light now. I hope to get my TBI wiring worked out pretty soon too and start getting that all layed into place.

Just a update. A couple weeks I got my 2nd battery hooked up, wired up some lights on the front, and got my fuse block mounted up on the firewall. I because I found out last minute that we were going to shiloh instead of me hauling a friends rig and just wheelin with him. So we went to shiloh and was there for about 10 minutes and was playing in the rock garden and landed on a rock. The t-case skid plate hit and it bent up the cross memeber and tweaked the inside of the frame rail and the front driveshaft was hitting the crossmember. So we went to camp and worked on it for about a hour and half and no luck so we decided to just run it in 2wd. We went down to the pits for about 30 minutes and came back up to camp and on the way back the transmission went out.

The tranny is still out on the truck but I have been working on my rockwells. I got them both all tore apart and found out that the front is u-joint style shafts. I got the diffs welded up and set back in. I highly recommend that if you ever pull 2.5 ton rockwell diff get some help. THey are really heavy. I did manage to get mine in and out by myself but it wasnt easy and took some engineering since I dont have a lift of any kind. I worked on it yesterady and I got the front swapped out and it is sitting on the rockwell. I am going to get u-bolt made tommorow and u-bolt plates to go on top of the leaf springs. I also need to get some plates cut out for the rear.

Another thing I did managed to find a guy that has a TBI 454, 400 tranny, and 205 t-case all for $1300. I am trying to get them money together for that stuff. It is all in a truck now still running. THere are a lot of people that have been interested in the stuff so hopefully it wont sell before I come up with the money. If I do end up getting the drivetrain I will put in the TBI 454 and 400 and save the 205 for when I do a double set up.

Well just a update. I havnt been doing a whole lot with the truck that is worthy of getting pics. I didnt manage to sell my stock 350 and TBI set up so I am going down this weekend to get a TBI 454 and if the sell comes through on my stock K20 axles then I will be picked up the 400 and 205 t-case also. I am going to dallas saturday so I will get pics of stuff sunday when I get it in the truck.

Well I made the trip to dallas this morning planning on just driving down there picked up the 454 and coming back. Got there and loaded up the 454 and talked to him about the 400 trans and 205 t-case and we settled on $400 and I had to pull them. Luckily the motor was already out so I just had to unbolt the driveshafts shift linkages and a couple lines and sensors. About 2 hours later I had it out and loaded up in the back of the truck. It will probably be 3 weeks before I start working on mine because we are working on some other rigs right now trying to get them ready for labor day weekend to go to hot springs ark and do some rock crawlin. I will get some pics of the new parts this week.

Also I picked up a set of 49" military tires already on stock split ring wheels for FREE!!! Now I need to find a way to get cut some of the lugs out. Anyone got any ideas?

i can do em all nice and perddy for you, im just a little bit of a far drive. you would probably be better off doing it yourself. and definately a good score on that! i NEEEEED a set of 37s, if you can find a me a deal like that let me know!!!

The only reason why I got these is because a buddy of mine built his blazer on 2.5 ton rocks and had a set of ****ty 44" military tires on it so he got these from a friend of his that has about 5 sets of these so he just put them on. Then he dont like them because they dont do good at all so he finally broke down and bought a set of 46" mickey thompson baja claws. I think that once I groove them the tires will do pretty good. I plan on taking out a lot of lugs.

Just a little update. I decided what I am doing for suspension. In the front I am gonna be running 6" lift superlift 56" springs. They have a spring rate of 420 which will be nice and soft. It will have a pretty long shackle in the rear which will be set up to give me ton of droop. I wont really be able to have much up travel at all since I am gonna be running a 49" tire with minimal(sp?) lift. The front axle will be moved forward about 4" by the time I am all said and done. I will end up with a wheelbase of about 134. I am gonna build a ladder bar setup for the front to keep from having axle wrap. It will be one single bar coming from a crossmember and then it will Y off and have 2 bar on the axle. It will pretty much be a radius bar I believe is what it is called. And on the crossmemeber end if I have enough room to get around exhaust and everything I will have a shackle up there.

For the rear I will will be running a set of jeep coil springs. I got them free from a buddy of mine who put them on the front of his blazer and but realized they were to soft so they should work good in the rear of mine. I will be running a one link set up with a track bar. Not sure if I am gonna use a bulldog hitch and trailer ball set up or just use a 1.25" Hiem joint. With the hiem joint I will have a 1" bolt holding pretty much the whole rear axle and tires. It wont be as strong as the hitch and trailer ball set up but it wont hang down as low as it either. I will just have to at it and deicde what I want to do when the time comes. As long as the truck is gonna be I would like to keep the belly flush with the bottom of the frame rails but I am gonna have a crossmember hanging down below the t-case until I get my doubler set up finished. The truck is also gonna be sitting up pretty high so I will a lot of clearance in the middle too. DECISIONS DESICIONS!!! I am hoping to have the front suspension put back together and sitting on the ground this weekend with the 49's on it.

Right now I also have no drivetraing in it. The motor, tranny, and t-case are all pulled out. I figured it would be easier to redo the front suspension while the motor and stuff was out. If I finish up early sunday then I may try to get the my TBI 454, 400 and 208 back in the truck. I will need to build a new crossmember to go under the t-case since mine got all bent up. And I will TRY to remeber to take my camera with me when I go and work on the truck this weekend. It looks REALLY bad right now.

Oh yeah and also today I order my steering. I went with PSC since he has a nwe 3X9 cylinder that was designed just for rockwells. I got a orbital valve, 3x9 cylinder, and all the stuff to mount get all of that in except for hoses. I will just use my stock pump for now and I will by a tranny cooler from the parts store for a power steering cooler. That way I can just mount it on my radiator and it will stay cooler that way. Hopefully the steering will either be here tommorow or monday!!

Ok your going with a graderball (one-link) rear suspension? Now I'm really interested!!! I cant wait to see how that turns out.

Yes it will be some type of one link with coil springs in the rear. I will either use a bulldog hitch and trailer ball, 1.25" Hiem joint, or there is a company that makes a ball and socket but it is expensive.

Are you talking about the ball and socket that Nth degree came out with? They just went out of business. What about an evolution joint?

Not sure who Nth is but the company that I am talking is called longview driveline or something like that. I dont think that they are really a internet sales site. They are located in longview tx. The 1.25" hiem that I am thinking about using a FK brand I believe. That guy I know that has his own shop just order like 40 of them to become a dealer and is getting great prices on them.

Oh i see. I think I have heard about them. Nth used to make suspension components (including one of the most badass lift kits ever!!)
