This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
FYI, @campfire, there us no advantage of 24 bolts Humvee wheels over 12 bolts.

The 24 bolts where made to handle the extra weight of armored Humvees.
Over the 12 bolts.
As far as 24 bolts are concerned, they look cool. But in a wheeling application, there us no advantage over a 12 bolt. Just a heavier wheel and more unsprung weight.
As far as the 8 bolts to 12 bolts go I could never track down an answer. But the general consensus I have heard is that they needed to change away from 8 bolts because the field tire change manual said remove the 8 bolts
And our highly trained military would take the axle shafts out...

As I said earlier, the clamping force increased greatly going from the 8 bolts to 12 bolts. And the clamping surface changes as well. The 8 bolt style wheels were a thinner material and bent much easier. Ask anyone who has ran both. The 24 bolts are the same design as the 12 bolts, they just increased the amount of surface area that applies force the the bead of the tire. Any time you would like to see the difference in person, come on by.

Yes, I'll agree about clamping force of the 8 bolts vs the 12/24. But I asked about clamping force when I got my 12 bolts. I talked to 3-4 of these rim dealers and I also posted at steel soldiers. Everyone told me the difference was negligible.

Since my truck will be driven on the street the weight difference vs. the clamping force doesn't outweigh.
I don't change my opinion that 24 bolts are pointless for anything but an armored humvee.

Greg, I am not arguing that 8 bolts are better. I was more making a statement of the difference from the 12s/24, I think they are both better then the 8 bolts.

I would grove those TSL's...would make a big improvement in the rocks. When I had my SX's, the difference between non-grooved and grooved was very noticeable.
 
You guys are wimps. I have one of these for my wood working projects. Nothing wrong with it when used properly. No worse then any other cut off wheel or saw blade.
Granted it's not a toy, but as with any power tool, proper safety and respect for the tool and you will be fine.

Good call. Getting an Ideal groover? I've had one for a couple years now and it's paid for itself a dozen times over. Did my 38.5" SX's, and two different sets of 44" boggers...it's a great tool to have, and you will be happy with cut TSL's

Not sure, he said he found a good deal on one. Need to get more info on what it is.
 
So does it chew away in chunks? Or does it make more of a dust?

Dust more then anything.

There are some you tube videos where I think guys are using air chisels and hot blades, they keep a torch on a few. And cycle them in and out.

But of course those are options if you don't want to buy a tire groover. Not anything to worry about if you're commited to buying one.
 
Get a can of hairspray and coat the wheel wells of wifeys ride, then throw some of that dust and chunks up there...

Tell her you've been out doing burnouts in her car...
