Did take a lot more time, but I was ok with that.Yeah, I thought the same thing for a while (just keep the carb running for a while) until I finally said screw it and jumped in.....Now, with that being said, I think I did it the harder way than most nowadays. But I wanted to keep cost down as much as I could. If money wasn't an option I probably would have done EZ-EFI cause of how freakin simple it is. Could probably put that in on a Saturday. I really wanted a 5.3 too, but after adding the cost of the odd ball crap (new motor mounts, re-flash computer and re-work harness, new fuel pump, ect...) it adds up, but that was my ideal route. But I decided a TBI will suffice all my needs for while. Then when I purchased that donor K5 I was able to steel everything and after selling a few things off it, I actually made money on the deal. Did take a lot more time, but I was ok with that.
All in all, it might be worth listining to 82355 on this
I hear you guys on this one. But, being that I work for a salvage yard I can get a full pull 5.3L (eng, acc, wiring harness, comp) for $300. I also have some hook ups with guys that will do the tuning and harness rework for just a couple 100 dollars. So all said and done, in the truck running I will have less $$ in the 5.3 than I will with the TBI set up. Plus I can sell my current eng to recoupe some of the money. Just trying to get the truck functional untill I can get my 2nd house sold to afford the swap.
Thats what I'm talking about!! Thats a heck of a deal. like I said, I think 5.3 or 6.0 is the way to go. If i ever blow my TBI, I will go that route. And I was just bustin your chops a little, I completely understand, sometimes projects just get put on the backburner (as they should when more important things pop up).
I just like to share a little insight on my thought process. I get really good deals on almost anything that I decide to do, so it's usually not a lot of money. But I do like to see other peoples opinions on the subject before I make a decision.

I'm interested to see what you do to accommodate for the wider spring pads. If you're sticking with leafs, that is.
I am not using these HP 60's. I am trading a guy for a locked pass. drop dana 60. I get these really cheap at my work.

That will be a good score for sure. Are you still planning on building a front steering 14bff? Or do you think the d60 will stay once you get it under there?
Once you put 35 spline outers and a couple other goodies, the d60 may be just as strong as the front 14bff....other than the pinioin guard you desired![]()

We found that the cost of building a 60 is actually more that the cost of building one of these hybrid axles(perks of being a parts guy). I really like the idea of the 14b steer axle, but there are a lot more areas on my junk that need way more attention first
