'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.

carb problem solved :D

Carbs are the enemy...

Pulled the bowls off last night and cleaned the needles and the rest of the carb. Put the carb back on, and now it cuts out real bad when you increase the RPM's. I'm thinking either there is a vacuum leak, or something else is plugged now......

Back to the drawing board.....:dunno:

See post #122:D

I did.

Yeah, I thought the same thing for a while (just keep the carb running for a while) until I finally said screw it and jumped in.....Now, with that being said, I think I did it the harder way than most nowadays. But I wanted to keep cost down as much as I could. If money wasn't an option I probably would have done EZ-EFI cause of how freakin simple it is. Could probably put that in on a Saturday. I really wanted a 5.3 too, but after adding the cost of the odd ball crap (new motor mounts, re-flash computer and re-work harness, new fuel pump, ect...) it adds up, but that was my ideal route. But I decided a TBI will suffice all my needs for while. Then when I purchased that donor K5 I was able to steel everything and after selling a few things off it, I actually made money on the deal :pimp:. Did take a lot more time, but I was ok with that.

All in all, it might be worth listining to 82355 on this

I hear you guys on this one. But, being that I work for a salvage yard I can get a full pull 5.3L (eng, acc, wiring harness, comp) for $300. I also have some hook ups with guys that will do the tuning and harness rework for just a couple 100 dollars. So all said and done, in the truck running I will have less $$ in the 5.3 than I will with the TBI set up. Plus I can sell my current eng to recoupe some of the money. Just trying to get the truck functional untill I can get my 2nd house sold to afford the swap.

Thats what I'm talking about!! Thats a heck of a deal. like I said, I think 5.3 or 6.0 is the way to go. If i ever blow my TBI, I will go that route. And I was just bustin your chops a little, I completely understand, sometimes projects just get put on the backburner (as they should when more important things pop up).

I don't mind getting some busted chops:waytogo: I just like to share a little insight on my thought process. I get really good deals on almost anything that I decide to do, so it's usually not a lot of money. But I do like to see other peoples opinions on the subject before I make a decision.

As for the EZ-EFI, that is a ton of $$$:eek1: and that I don't have. But I would totally go that route if money was not an issue. Mainly because I am lazy:haha:

I really only have a couple more weekends of working on my old house to get it on the market. So after that is back to the Jimmy:D

The next free thing I am going to do is bedliner the inside of it. I am tired of the truck looking trashy on the inside. Plus I already have the kit, just need to get it done.

Carbs are still the enemy...

Well, fired up the Jimmy tonight and she purred like a kitten. Sounds like it is back to running good for now. Now to replace the loose lower ball joint, and she'll be ready for the next trip.

I'm interested to see what you do to accommodate for the wider spring pads. If you're sticking with leafs, that is.

I am not using these HP 60's. I am trading a guy for a locked pass. drop dana 60. I get these really cheap at my work.

That will be a good score for sure. Are you still planning on building a front steering 14bff? Or do you think the d60 will stay once you get it under there?

Once you put 35 spline outers and a couple other goodies, the d60 may be just as strong as the front 14bff....other than the pinioin guard you desired :D

I will probably rock the 60 for a while untill i get bored:rolleyes:. My brother (garyweak84) is the one who really wants to build these things. We found that the cost of building a 60 is actually more that the cost of building one of these hybrid axles(perks of being a parts guy). I really like the idea of the 14b steer axle, but there are a lot more areas on my junk that need way more attention first:whistle:

Yeah, that's got to be nice to keep cost down to be a parts guy. If you guys do go that route, what outers would you use? I have seen a couple different styles, like the ford dana 50 outers (knuckles, c's, everything). I guess the big thing you will give up is time (instead of $$) on a project like that. I have seen a couple guys who have done it who end up really liking it, but say if they were to do it all over again, they would just pay the little extra for d60 parts and spend their time doing other stuff (like wheeling more :D). Would be freaking sick though
