'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
I started to sand it a bit, but decided to take a picture to show the results. The sand paper took it down pretty good. I'm happy with both.

Ran into another situation last night. My sleeve is ceased onto my front leaf spring bolt. I have decent usable poly bushings up front that I would like to try and save. Any ideas on how to get the bolt out without damaging the bushings?

I have already tried a sledge, and also an air hammer. I sprayed it with PB blaster last night. See if that helps at all.

The bolt is stuck in the leaf spring? I had that happen on my rear leafs. The corrosion locked the bolt and sleeve together so bad i had to sawzall the bolts off in the hangers.

Yeah, that's what happened. I'm sure I will end up having to cut the bolt. Just want to try and save the bushings.

yeah that was a nightmare on my truck. For what its worth i sawzalled mine out without really damaging the bushing but the bolt would never come out so it was a wash. I think if you pressed the bolt out the bushings would likely rip. I think the best chance would be to soak the bolt with kroil or 50/50 mix of acetone and atf. Both of those are better than pb blaster....then i would press the bolt out with a washer for that bolt size underneath it to keep the bushing rubber from pushing out. It may work.

I found that the metal sleeve for the bolt had not only locked onto the bolt but it had become embed in the rubber from years of use.

Anyone see a problem here?

Luckily I was able to salvage the old bushings, I will cut them too and reuse them.

Got the correct bushings from ORD in the mail today. Ran home on my lunch break and tossed them in the springs to check for fitment.

Again ORD has showed themselves to be a great company via their awesome product! Bushings are fantastic and fit perfect.

I will be bolting them back together tonight and will get more pictures up.

Just got my tire back from being vulcantized. Pretty happy with the results. This will be on the inside, so you wont see it at all.

I'm ready to have my fullsize tire back on there.

Spent a couple hours yesterday finishing up the poly bushings, and bolting them up with the greasable bolts. Still need to get the upper mounts on the front springs poly, but it already made a huge improvement.

The truck not only rides better, but also is a lot more smooth with motions.

I wore through the old poly bushing somehow and was getting metal on metal contact, which made a knocking noise under certain load situations.

All in all I am very happy with the upgrade so far. And with only a portion of the springs/bushings upgraded, I can wait to get the rest done. Been needing to be done for far to long!

Also not the best flex shots, but I already found out I am maxing out my 10" POS front shocks.

good to hear you could save that tire.

How long are your front shackles? Do they hit the frame at all?

FYI- I think your missing a cotter pin on your TRE on the passenger side arm.

Good eye! I didn't even notice that. Must have forgot that last time I was in there.

Factory shackle length. No contact yet that I have seen.

im still rocking factory shackles too. There 4.5" in length. I need to switch mine out because they are bent and i think the frame bushings are gone lol.

I'm sure I will be going with a longer shackle once I do the upper bushings, but for now it seems to work perfect.

That last picture looks sweet!

That last picture looks sweet!

I feel dumb for not knowing the bushing was offset like that..
Nice flex shot.

Thanks, guess I didn't think those were that good of a shot. You guys sure know how to make a girl blush...

Yeah, dodge 60's spring pads are 1/2" wider, so the bushings are off set 1/4" per side. Sure made it a lot easier than moving pads.
