'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
Greg, these are the heat sleeves I used all over my truck for fuel lines, transmission cooler lines and shift cables (they sell different ID's and lengths). I can't remember if all of it was velcro but I know some of it was which was nice so I didn't need to disconnect cables and lines for installation.

You can see the transmission lines wrapped in this pic and where my fuel lines ran (before I wrapped those).

Awesome. That is exactly what I bought for my truck. Thanks for the vote of confidence. :waytogo:

Yeah I would look into a shield.

Was the route down past the dizzy ala factory TBI routing not good?

Yeah, I'd try and go up and over the top of the trans and up the back of the intake...

I ran mine down the trans tunnel and wrapped it.

I'm not aware of what factory tbi routing is. I'm not opposed to it, I just don't know how it's ran.

As for the heat wrap, where do you find the Velcro style?

Why does that matter? I would still shield them if I was doing something with them...

Did you miss this post?

I never said I'm not shielding them. I just said I haven't had to worry about it thus far. I.E., Greg is overthinking things and taking over a month to do what he originally wanted to be a weekend project. M.A.W. has hit him hard. When I jokingly challenged him to an engine building race, I had no idea that mine would actually come together before his did. :ignore:

P.S. - welcome back, Beagle.

Greg

The TBI routes the lines to the passenger side of the diz, drops past the cylinder head and skips over to the frame rail.

@Justin V or @6872xtc may have a decent picture

But I have oil burners. :pimp: :haha:

you alluded to the fact that you didn't need to heat wrap your lines because you have a crappy engine

that link I posted is the velcro style
Thanks, I missed the link the first time around somehow.

That sounds pretty doable. I have a hand full of different elbow degrees that should make a clean install.

How do you secure the hose while it runs over the trans? Or do you just let it flop around?

Maybe you would know how they did that if you ever would put a 4x4 trans and t case in your gmt400.....

There's a bracket on the frame and a bracket on a bellhousing Bolt.
(At least on a gmt400)

Yeah like a P shaped clamp to the boss on the back of the block or through a bell housing bolt. Even tha back Intake bolt will work

Cool. I'll go that route.

For the amount of time I had last night this is all the looming I did. Had to stop on the run towards the back of the VC due to there being a wire nut. I am going to fix that properly and proceed to finish that run of loom on the wiring. I'm getting more and more excited to do wiring. When I slow down and do it right it looks and works so much better.

Nope. Had nothing to do with the engine design, just the fuel type. And the fact that stock routing has been working just fine for 30-some years now. Without needing heat wrap.

No need to overthink this unless you've done something to increase the risk of overheating (like I did).

Where did you get the tub of conduit Greg? That’s pretty nifty! Most stores around here only sell it in useless lengths like 5’

What did you overheat?
