'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
Yeah, but that's an engine only. I'd need a full dropout with accessories and wiring.

If/when this engine goes, the truck will most likely get a Duramax. I would not replace it with another 6.5L.
Probably will be easier to swap when you get the 4wd trans and transfer case put in it.
In 2030.

Did final torque sequence on the intake tonight. After going through the different inch pound setting, I can see why it is so important to torque as specified. 106 inch pound doesn’t sound like much, but man I was hoping for the click towards the end lol.

I will be installing mine soon also, you ended up getting the black intake bolts?
Did your intake gaskets have little "snouts" on them that slid down into the intake bolt holes?

I think the “snouts” they are referring to are at the end, and they go in this little tab that comes off the head gasket. I could totally be wrong.

And yes, I went with the black 72mm bolts. This is a picture of them next to each other.

Both my old and my new gaskets have a snout on every bolt pass thru. This pic is of my intake manifold with a long black 72mm bolt and my old gasket. You can see the snout around the bolt by the mounting surface. I bought part #89017539 gaskets.

I don't remember specifically looking for those snouts. I just went in and bought them from a parts store for a 2005 Silverado 2500, which is what the engine is out of.

Great progress Greg! Summer 2020 is going to be fun for you guys with this thing running
Someone said it, I think maybe it was Eric the Sasquatch, one thing a day. That’s what I have been trying to do. Even if it’s just as simple as installing a sensor. It’s kept me on pace.

The first goal is to get this truck drive able and as reliable as the crusty ‘83 was. I want to get back to enjoying it with my family. Which means ice cream runs, driving it to car shows, and the occasional run to the lake. Then the refocus on the trail aspect. This won’t be an overland truck, but I want to be able to drive it on local adventures, and still be nice enough for a Sunday drive. Too many years it was all about me and the Jimmy bashing it on the rocks. That’s not sustainable. I spent too many years destroying this truck and I’m angry at my younger self. It’s time to fix my mistakes.

So...repairing the damage? Or starting over with a cleaner body? :dunno:

Did you ever do that full hydro steering?
