'86 K30 Crew Cab Build

Yes, my NV4500 will need a good shakedown cruise, round trip to MT might be far enough.

I have to pull the hydroboost off and the rest y'all are welcom to scavenge. It's not going anywhere but I would like to get it out of here sometime in the near future. Lots of good parts on it. Maybe by the time ya'll get here I will have some progress on the Snow Bear! I'm looking for a few things when you guys head this way.

Sounds good man, I'd be happy to haul stuff your way too. Thanks!

My buddy that is cutting/bending parts for my bumper has dragged his feet long enough that I had a chance to redo some of it to fit better with the body lift I just installed. I upgraded the material of construction to a stronger grade of 1/4" plate and was able to get everything all happy in the FEA to make it all out of 1/4" with 12,000lbs pull straight out the front on the winch.

If anyone want drawings, just PM me. I'll share them.

I'm hopefully going to have the parts here by next weekend. Here's a few pics of the latest revision.

Side: The orange thing is the sheetmetal under the grill, I modeled up just that piece and stuck it in there to set the clearances in the model where I wanted them.

TOP.JPG
Top" Bumper is 5" proud of the orange sheetmetal piece. The wings on the side would fit around an untrimmed fender, but they will be really close to touching. I'm going to defang mine when I put this bumper on.

I'm going to have to extend the winch clutch handle a few inches to get it high enough above the bumper to clear when it rotates.

EXP.JPG
Here's the exploded view of the parts that need to be fabricated. Total assembly minus the winch is about 120lbs.

Does that 84 burb have the nicer captains chairs and center console it it? I can't remember what years have what style seats on the burbs...but would maybe be interested in the later model/style captains chairs (the ones with the arm rests) with a console to swap into my crew cab and get rid of the bench seat

The captain's chairs are going in my k20 but the console is available. Yes they have the arm rests on them.

Cool....the chairs and stuff is all I really would have wanted, so I'm good.

thanks though!

So are the top bends where it transitions from the top the face going to be radius?

It does look very nice!

Thanks, I'm excited to get this done.

Yes the whole "skin" is a single sheet with radius bends. It only need welds where the various components join together.

That is unless I do something different

If it shakes out like your axle/engine/trans deals, You'll probably find an abandoned van load of brand new Beard Seats and underneath them will be another set of brand new PRP's.

Man I wish. Hard parts I can locate but seats and stuff I struggle. I have been eyeing a wrecked 2006 3500 with captains chairs someone is parting out. If I could get those reasonable I would have the ones from the sub for you but they aren't that nice. Drivers is shredded. I had planned to recover them after the interior was done.

My front seat has been spitting out pieces of springs at me randomly over the past few years, Well it decided to spit a few out all at once and the extra saggy seat that resulted was kind of disturbing.

I made a trip to a nearby junkyard to look for a replacement seat and was really disappointed by what was left in the yard. Every seat he had was absolutely ruined by exposure to weather. They've got 2-3 dozen squares/burbs/blazers but not much of anything useable. There was one '87 burb that must have just got there because it isn't picked clean yet. Has complete drivetrain SM465/208 with hydro bell and pedals!

I pulled my seat just see what if anything could be done to fix my existing one and was pleased to find my seat is actually a thick foam piece over a raft of thin wires with a series of extension coil springs holding it up. There are 14 springs, my seat had 6 intact:eek: The local hardware store had a really close match to replace them with.

What was less awesome than the broken springs was the broken seat frame, and cracked nearly in half drivers side adjuster rail. No wonder the seat was sagging.

I was able to weld in a section of 1" angle to fix the seat frame and welded the crack in the adjuster rail and plug welded on a piece of 1/4" steel to reinforce it, hopefully it holds up. I threw on a new blanket seat cover too. No more saggy ass!

You can see the new angle iron on the right hand side of the picture, new springs on the left.

My buddy puts burlap or a thick fabric on the bottom of the foam too, helps keep the springs from digging into the foam. Well not the springs the supports.

But you gotta take the seat down a bit more to do that. It's amazing the difference that makes

Wish I'd known that trick, I would have tried it, it wouldn't be that hard to do. I think you could pull the mounts and springs and just slide it in under the wires. Next time I have the seat out, I'll do that.

So you pulled all the good parts from that burb right? Right?
I am sad to say that I didn't have the time, also this is the kind of yard that gives junkyards a bad name. this thing is currently sitting flat on the ground in a mud hole with no wheels or tires. So the difficulty factor is high. I am going back for at least the hydro bell/pedals when I have a day to spend, hope they are still there.

Call me when you go back. I'll cruise down.

I need some burb stuff
