86 K5 - Suggestions on replacement parts?

I had those new rotors, calipers, and pads (page 7 post #64) put on my blazer this past week. Had Dad go pick it up since it was at a mechanic near home. He drove it home and said the brakes weren't real smooth and seemed to chatter... I have my ideas but would like to see what you all think.

We already talked but they won't. Too much backspacing. Will rub on the steering components on half tons.

I took out all the back carpet this weekend. Definitely need all three rear bed panels, and the tail pan. It's almost comical where they were rusted out... in front and behind the wheel wells. Some better design there would have been nice... Mud flaps and something in front of the wheel would have done wonders. I'll post some pictures tomorrow as I forgot to take them yesterday. I have some "Before" pictures though.

I think I'm going to take out the floor and work on the frame some while I've got it accessible. Should be able to clean some stuff up without taking it ALL off. Brace the bed rails, leave the top on, can climb in and do some clean up and won't have to worry about it raining.

You do understand that truck is 26 years old right? It wasn't designed to last forever.

Oh yea, I'm not complaining. I bought it with the intention to learn how to do some body work and welding. It shall be fun :)

I just need to figure out where to buy the panels. Haven't bought any yet. I found some rockers and front fenders on craigslist from a guy who had bought them from LMC a year or so ago. So I've at least got a start... but I haven't purchased any directly myself.

Ooooooph...I knew a guy that was selling an awfully nice K5 a while back...

You probably don't know how much I actually thought about said K5 when said guy was selling said vehicle... Lol. If I hadn't have already got this one I would have been a lot more motivated to work out the financials... I still wish I could have gotten said K5 tailgate... Haha.

Well, you should have said something. For the price it ended up selling for things could have happened...

Damn, saw a tailgate on CL a while back.

If you find another... let me know. Mine could probably be fixed... but I'm certain that I could find another one and save A LOT of time and possibly money by just switching it out. About half of the top against the glass has rusted through, so I have some tape across it right now just to keep the rain out... its sad :doah:

As far as your blazer, it would have been cool to have, just not the right time. Thats why I didn't say anything. But hopefully that dude is enjoying it as it was a pretty nice one :waytogo:

Oddly enough, I found a truck tail gate on my brothers property in a barn... I"m gonna go get it one day and bring it home and see what kind of shape it's in... maybe rig something up with that for now.

Not bad. Where did you end up getting these from? I need to do basically the same thing on my Blazer. Looking to see the quality

Classic Industries. If you sign up for email updates, they run specials quite often to get free shipping, 15% offm etc. They are in California I believe, and were cheaper than LMC. It'll probably take me a little while to get them installed but I'll post up pictures and my opinions the pieces.

The coupon code I used for this order just expired Friday so it might be a month or two before they run another... but I'm sure they will with the holidays coming up.

I got my panels in on Monday... I think they all look pretty good. I'll take a few shots of them and put them on here soon.

In the mean time, I've been thinking about getting a pressurized sandblaster from HF and blasting rusty areas like the frame when I pull the floor up. Just try to clean everything up as much as I can. I need to look up info about media and what would be the best/safest to use.

And for those interested, I got this via email.

I took my rear bumper off this weekend... geez, what a PITA. Only a couple bolts came out like you'd want them to... all the others either broke, or rounded out the square hole in the bumper in which ended up in me cutting them off. I took it off to get a better idea on the floor replacement and to make taking the tailgate off a little easier.

SO, after looking at the NEW tailpan, and the NEW tailgate posts, I realize that I'm missing a little metal where stuff bolts together down there in the corners. I need some pictures of what It's supposed to look like so I'm going to fish around on the tech articles and see if I can find something. Feel free to throw ANY advice my way.
Forgot to take pics; will do that soon.

Mine makes a little knocking noise when going into reverse sometimes.

Im prob gonna have a mechanic give my truck a once over to try and locate any forthcoming problems before they get to far gone.
