86 K5,

I've got all the parts that I know of in the shed waiting to go in. Then my bank card got stolen and I am waiting on a new one so I can get the engine delivered. While I wait, anyone wanna recommend some motor mounts for an ls swap? Will stock mounts work? I have the adapter plates for the block, just curious what would be best for the lower portion.

Bit of a problem. I got the dirty dingo upper engine mounts and the lower mounts from diy4x. The uppers are an inch wider. Can I use spacers/washers to take up the extra space or would that cause other issues? I am hoping I can because I already took the grinder to the bolt holes in the uppers to accommodate the larger bolt that came with the lower mounts and I painted everything so I don't think returns will be allowed .

I would try a 1/2" spacer on each side.

I'm pretty sure DIY4X sells thick washers

Just got my transmission for the second time. first time it was a seat, Fedex messed up and sent someone else my transmission. Then today the transmission showed up with no bell housing and torque converter. Hoping the third time is the charm.

I got some 1/4 inch spacers to fill the void. Now the issue is that the mismatch is causing one mount to be off by half a hole. I have kept everything loose but can't seem to get the engine over far enough to get the passenger side mount bolt through. Anyone dealt with this? Any suggestions?

Never mind, engine is in. Needed a bigger bar and a third hand. engine in.jpg

Forgot about this repair until I got under my truck to look at the existing set up. Heat shield was rattling pretty bad and the bolts were rotted out so I clamped it on until I got to the swap. It's held on quite well.

Got back from Disney world sunday and, finally, the right transmission was in my driveway. Should have some time to install it before this upcoming weekend is over. This will be a first for me so if anyone has any tips or things to be aware of, it would be appreciated.

Put some Transmission Fluid in converter first like 1/2 quart then make sure you get to sit correctly when installing should be like finger or less between it and the case.

Torque converter is on it with some sort of keeper holding it on. There is also a cap on the end of the shaft. Safe to assume they both have to be removed before installation? you can kinda see them both in the picture.transmission.jpg

Had some free time today so I got the transmission installed. Next I'll get the fuel system installed then it's time to start tearing apart my truck. Hoping I'll find time for one more trip first. Transmission in.jpg

Wifes jeep broke down so I haven't been able to tear into the original vehicle. Between car shopping and school work I managed to get the new gas tank and fuel filter/regulator with a couple of the lines. I ended up buying braided lines with the appropriate fittings...twist-lok sucks! tank:filter.jpg

Wow, I have almost the exact same setup on mine. Only difference, is I am running a fuel cell. That regulator setup works great.

I need a garage...

It's all under there somewhere though.

I'm sold on the 14bff. Just have to find one now and a Dana 60. I know I can get a 14bff for 400 or less. What should I expect to pay for the 60?

Also, Can anyone point me in the direction of a good thread or two for swapping in an LS 6.0 into an 86 k5. I have been reading some of the 5.3 swaps, is it all the same? I found two LQ9 engines just need to check them out and buy one and that will be my winter project. So far I have a list of items to make sure come with the engine (starter, alternator, power steering pump, and A/C compressor, uncut engine harness, PCM, mass airflow (MAF) sensor, gas pedal, and O2 sensors) The one is missing the A/C compressor but I think I can get one for $150 new. What other parts will I need to get this in my 86? I would like to add some power while I am cleaning it up so what is recommended for that too?

I apologize for all the questions but I want to get this right.

Thanks in advance

I did a 06 LQ9 6.0 with a 4L80E in my 87. Not happy with the people who did my wire harness. Thing runs like a champ, love it! For the A/C I went with a Vintage air system and the Dirty Dingo A/C mounts. Those Mount are awesome and super strong. Looking for the correct belt length now. I would change every gasket you can while the engine is out. That is what I did. Anything I can help with?

What fuel pump and regulator did you got with?

Idk if you've settled on a specific wire harness yet but a lot of guys on here have used EZ Wiring, the make a 12 fuze and I believe a 21 fuze harness (power windows and such). from what I've read they wire quality exceeds Painless'.

I bought the 12 fuze harness a little over a year ago, super clean... still in the box lol.

When I bought mine I believe it was roughly $170.

If you decide to go LS and need wiring, computer, drive by wire pedal or other LS parts I know a guy in Knoxville, TN who will ship you whatever you need for dirt cheap, he's hooked me up a few times
