87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Wow, funny this came back up.... I was planning to update it soon, as some more projects are nearing completion...

Thanks for the props... The stuff I'm working on now actually impresses me... :o Makes me all giddy... :haha:

Anyway, we have the ACR sitting on the shelf in our parts store at the marina... $100 to me... Honestly I just haven't felt the need to dump that cash right now.. Other priorities and all... The trucks system is doing awesome, but eventually I will be adding it..

We have installed them in a couple boats tho and have been very happy with their performance so far... Oldest install is only about 6 months tho... It is a pretty foolproof setup, wiring couldn't be simpler and the ACR's quality is topnotch.. Heavy little SOB! :haha:

We haven't used the Battery Mate yet, but my service manager is anxious to try one out and will pushing it on our next battery system upgrade install...

Hopefully I'll be updating this thread in a week or so with some pretty cool stuff that some will really dig... :D

Which model number ACR are you planning on? BTW, I have found some rediculous prices on EBAY. Yes, yes I am a EBAY-aholic. I could stop at any time! Really! I don't have a problem. And I don't need you & my wife to keep telling me about it!! Shut up! :D

Buddy

the 9112, on the right.. Thats all we've used, and it's the one we have in stock... Big amp rating...

I was an addict with tools and skateboards on the bay for a couple years... now i just shop 60's.. :wink1:

they're showing up over there huh?

Yeah, every so often. Matter of fact, you can get one for about 90 shipped buy it now currently.

I didn't realize the one on the left had such a "low" amp rating. I'd be popping that one every time it kicked on with the 120 amp alternator I have right now. Does the dual sensing mean that it can charge from two different sources, like 2 alternators, or alt & solar panel, (what I'm thinking of)? :D

BTW, I just saw the diagram & I'm having a hard time distinguishing what's what. I am an AutoCAD drafter, so if you have a handwritten diagram &/or will mark up the diagram you posted, maybe I could clean it up for you a little.

I'm VERY interested in this project, because it seems that you are using the best quality & simplest, but most robust combination of parts that does EVERYTHING that I want my electrical system to do. Keep me, OK keep us, updated. See, I don't always just think about myself. :wink1:

hey thanks Buddy, will do... Thats the idea behind it... :D

And yeah, the dual sensing is exactly what you figured... The unit is also controllable manually, thus the optional switch panel for it, but not nescessary.

So that diagram I have guys, is it showing up all unreadable and whatnot?

How would I go about making a pdf file? Is that as simple as going in Adobe and following some directions?

I tried to make it large in paintshop pro, then size it down... It's shows up ok for me, but a little fuzzy...

Or is just not drawn in a way that is easily discernable to anyone other than me? :doah: :haha:

I thought I could read and understand it, but what do I know, I'm an electrical noobie. :dunno: Of course, I'm used to trying to read the factory wiring diagrams, which are written in egyptian. :wink1:

I've read this thread and was wondering what was the point in running dual batteries? Did the heater need the extra power?

I'm thinking about doing this myself but because my stereo pulls too much current to be on when the car is off. Did you make that dash panel because it looks great.

Also what are all those switches for below the guages and to the left?

At this point in the build, the dual batteries are there for redundancy and reliability... The heater doesn't draw any more than a factory unit.. But down the road, I'll have all the stuff that'll require them, winch, extra lights, etc...

But one of the main reasons will be that I plan to have welding capability with the truck... A 200 amp alternator is in the future to facilitate this... Once again, overkill is a good thing... :wink1:

And yeah, the dash was a creation of mine, looking to start selling them in a few months. Little slow on that between juggling work on the truck and 55 hr work weeks.. Fabbing the mold is a time consuming process...

The switches are left to right, 3 position interior lights (off, floor, ceiling), 3 position fans (off, auto, manual), 3 position wipers (off, low, high), 3 position park/headlights (off, park, h-lights) and a 2 position hi beam switch (low, high)...

The right side will be getting a similar setup for fuel pump, heater, aux lights, ACR, winch, etc...

Why I now have two batteries is this: I have an ARB fridge. Keeping the ice cream from melting in the desert drew the single battery down to where it wouldn't start the truck when we were ready to start for home. This happened even though I thot I'd been careful about starting it up and re-charging the batteries several times that weekend.
Since I already had the marine combiner switch from my previous Sub I used it, but eventually I plan to go to the ACR too.

How much is that dash mold going to cost? Will it mount up in the right spot in my 90?

You mean the dashes, or my cost to make the mold?

http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1873838#post1873838

The dashes are looking like the $250 to $300 range...

My cost for the mold? undisclosed amount of cash and a good weeks worth of labor...

And yes, it will fit a 90... Most questions have been gone over in that thread, options, shift indicator, etc, etc...

Dam Paul, I think you need to take on a few more projects..:haha: :haha:
The drawing looks great to me. The color coding is a big bonus, and I think its mapped out quite well. No problem here.
How's the lighting project?

Looking back over the diagram it doesn't look bad at all, I was just going to label the different circuits a little more clearly, (gauge sizes mainly). I'm pretty novice at wiring diagrams, & I think a few of the rest of us here are as well, plus I'm also one of those guys who is a visual learner, so I have to have EVERYTHING shown to me in a graphic medium. (no, I'm not talking about porn you perverts. ) :D

As for a pdf writing program, if you have photoshop you're all set. But if not, we use this at my work & it works beautifully for creating the .pdf's. The only hassle with it is that once you hit the "print" button it has a couple of pop-ups. Other than that though, it works great!!

Thanks bud, I kinda like being swamped... Thank god I've been in insomniac mode for awhile now.. Basically, I'm working down in the garage till midnight, then up at 4....

I probably should mention that the diagram is an evolving work... I actually want to make the entire truck in 1 diagram.... I'm just gonna keep adding systems to it, and tweaking existing circuit labeling, etc...

As for the other projects, the light relay mod is done, I'm just waiting on the H4 lens from LMC to come in... Stoked on that, should be real bright... The waterproof electrical box in the corner is just about done and hopefully I'll start posting pics this weekend.. The glovebox breaker panel is a little further from done... That one is a ton of work... :doah: :haha:

It could use some better labeling... next installment! :wink1:

Thanks on the pdf info.... I'll have to look into that this week....

That diagram is great. I'm starting to wire up my ignition in my rig and it's come in real handy. All you got to do is stay a couple steps ahead of me so I can follow along. :)

Man, I just cannot operate on less than 6 hours consistently, really prefer 7-8, don't know how some people do that.

Anyhow, the wiring diagram for the whole truck sounds awesome, and I'm sure will be referenced by many, myself included. I just need to start doing more of that, so I can understand it better.
Thanks again for your expertise Paul.

.

Honestly, I'm not like this all the time... It seems to come in spurts, been on the 4 to 5 hr thing for about 5 months now... But the 6 months prior, I needed/did my 7 to 8.. Not sure what thats all aboot.... :doah: :haha:

For me, how much I get done is really a function of how the ole knee actuators are feeling... I've learned that I need to stay busy when I get home from work.. If I come up and park my fat arse at the computer, the knees start to ache, swell, etc and it's hard to get moving..
