87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

you know what, your right. Ive had a second to think about that post and I should have kept that to myself. :o Never been acused of being very smart! sorry.:doah:and I appologize on jackin this thread.

no worries Jess, I hijack it plenty.... :wink1:

speaking of... non build update.. haven't touched the truck this week with the new job.. pretty battered... then I skated mini-ramp last night and tweaked the knee... but I hope to make a good dent on the floor fab this weekend and have the cage mounted... do the tunnel next weekend..:grind::weld:

the new job has worked out fine, as i knew it would.... I'm killing it for them, gonna be a good gig... I'm still a little f*cked in the head over it all, and the girl issue.. but it's getting better daily... I miss my crew, work by myself pretty much... guess thats why i'm slaughtering jobs for em... :doah: and it's exactly 2 miles from the house... :saweet:

pic update sunday.... :deal:

yup, way moreso than the last 5 yrs... corporate really tried to "departmentalize" everyone.... did very little glass/paint/gelwork there...

this basically is about a 7, 8 person gig, my 3 boss partners, couple yard guys, me and of course the trimly teen gas-pumping girls.... :eek1::doah::haha:

we only have about a 55', 60' capabilty.. definitely more 17 to 21's (outboards), and more blowboats (which I could do without), but still a good amount of 27 to 50' stuff.

and yeah, ummm, I do everything, from repowers and rebuilds, to electronics, outdrives, glasswork, hydraulics, diagnostics, trannys, air conditioning, running gear, etc, etc... nice to see someone wanna take advantage of that for a change...

the only things I really don't do, and mainly cuz I just feel the need to draw the line somewhere, are hauling and blocking the boats, tho I do help out... and running the boats, just something I'm not into...

it's just a much better, mom and pop approach... do your customers right, value for their dollar, etc, and it pays off with thriving business... not hammering people because the "pie charts" dictate it so all your customers hate you... reputation REALLY is everything...

and thanks man.. I knew it would be right, everyone told me is was destiny that I came here, but it still was a bad headtrip for awhile... I still find myself driving 15 miles out of my way after work to go do happy hr with my old crew a couple times a week... :o

that is really cool. Its so good to be appreciated in your work. YOU make the difference. I'm sure they feel lucky to have found you.
I had exceeds/exceptional performance reviews for over 10 years, and ONLY because of seniority, I had to leave my unit while more senior POS people got to stay. It just proved to me that at this company (PFIZER) job performance don't mean sh!t.
Anyhow glad things are cool Paul, and hanging with the ole gang is a cool thing.
And are blowboats, jet drives?

haha, nah, sailboats... there just a pain in the butt across the board... tho, you did just bring up another one, it'll be rare that I work on a jetdrive anymore... they ain't bad to work on, we just don't have any in the yard...

i was a real idiot when it came to big company stuff.... they certainly left a bad taste in my mouth... tho I'm sure all companies aren't like that...

framing the cargo area...... same construction as the back, 1" x 1" x 1/8 angle iron... all qrter panel/well attachments are bolts so they can be removed if need be... frame is welded to the floor...

all sheet steel in the truck is 12 gauge....

oh, side note product review...... you may have seen some copper colored spray around the frame, it's a new weld-thru primer I'm trying from SEM, CopperWeld... I like it, 2 thumbs up... :waytogo::waytogo:

next step is one I've been avoiding.... making the bevel-cut bridge in the rear cab support... was hoping I could get away without, been mocking that up today...

once thats done, I can put that low vertical step wall in at the back of the floor... final plugweld the cargo floor and do the rear cage flanges...

Is that what all the tube, frame etc. is painted with?

nah, thats urethane primer over zinc chromate... Nason's 2K primer....

i just use this where it's going to be sandwiched metal... like the floor sitting on top of the angle irons... everything else is exposed, so it can be treated with zinc, urethane once done......

does that spraybomb primer retain its protection even after welding, or does it burn off?

it burns off in the immediate weld area, you can weld right thru it.. but it does do a good job of keeping it just those areas... great for patch panels, double panels, etc

I've been using weld-thru primers for about 20 yrs, they've always been zinc based, gray stuff... boy they really don't want zinc in the products anymore.. even getting hard to find green zinc chromate primer.. now it's "self etching" primers without the zinc mostly...

this is a Nobama build!!!! :haha: bring on the evil chemicals and horsepower!!! grunt... grunt..... :saweet:

just as a refresher to more recent attendees to this monstrosity of a build, here's the same basic style construction I did in the back when I did the qrters, tailpan, wells, etc......

Does the zinc in the weld thru primer cause a reason for concern when welding it, like say zinc metal?

probably...... :wink1: I just hike my skirt up and burn it! :haha:

nah, it's such a small amount you don't even notice it really... not like welding galvanized.... :eek1:

cool, thanks Paul, I'm just getting my feet wet in the welding arena.

anytime.... :D

I REALLY wanna learn TIG.... be awhile before that happens tho.... :(

maybe i'll build an oilpan! :woot::crazy::haha:
