87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Found CK5 a few months ago and this was the first thread I subscribed to. Keep up the great work. I was thinking that horizonal surfaces are magnets for beverages and dust- both of which are bad for electonics if they fall through the grate. Maybe put the exhaust grate in the vertical panel facing the rear of the truck? Thanks, hope you don't read this until midnight when you're done in the garage. More pics!

hey thanks man, appreciate that.... :D

I figured that would be a sticking point, exhausting out the top... i also want that top to stay very durable for when it gets stepped on...

it may be possible to vent out the upper part of the back wall.... what the pic doesn't show is that 2" behind that wall will be the wall for the cargo area.... now that would work nice because the exhaust would be under that top b-tube, protecting from soda's, floating dust, etc.. the con to exhausting out the back is that it will be coming right around the corner and going back thru the fans due to the other wall...

originally I wasn't sure where to do intakes and exhaust... i kinda ruled the bottom out early on cuz i wanna be able to rinse the floor off...

i could do intake fans on one sidewall and exhaust out the other...

but then i thought, heat rises, funnel it out the top and i can keep it real cool.. chimney-like.... also, i wasn't overly concerned about dust... between a foamy filter and constantly blowing air OUT, I was thinking I might be safe...

suggestions noted....

and alrighty, I'm dragging my puking arse down there now...... :o

hmmmmm.....

Even though that's pretty cheap.. I'm more inclined to the indestructible unit we made for building AK's hadji style in the woods :haha:Then again, ours was off a stock height truck so it needed a little height built in.. I think in yours that hf part might be the perfect height.

thats what i figure, straight out the back will probably be perfect...

I figured I'd take a peak at theirs at the store to check quality, then end up just making my own..... it's as simple as it gets..

storing it in the truck is my biggest concern.. weight, awkwardness, etc...

You could use a small piece of reciever tube to mount it in The bed so it does not roll around. People do that for the removable winches....

Is there enough room in the space behind your seats for dual sub enclosures? I can't tell from the pics. But it looks like you might be able to fit some 8's back there?

nice.... that'd work great probably!

I'm gonna run the subs in the back, did some figuring yesterday and found a home for a 10" on each side...

no update this weekend guys... :(

been sick, then ran into an issue with the truck that was unexpected..... no big, I'll git-r-dun...... :wink1:

Of course, you could also remind yourself that it's a VICE. Spin the handle and clamp it to whatever piece of rollcage is closest. The mounting scheme is "built right in"..... :D

Hope you're feeling better Paul. There's nothing worse than being too sick to even get out to the garage on a day off.

thanks Greg, appreciate it.... :D I've beat myself up pretty bad over the years between slamming in pools, work wounds and clean living, it catches up to me now and then... I really, really need to stop smoking, it's my bane.... :(

hope I've given all some good build pron the last couple months, as not much "new" is gonna happen for the next 2 to 4 weeks.... gotta get some supplies in, in the meantime I have a TON of "behind the scenes" odds and ends i need to get back to and finish up... next "new" work will be the back cage, panel fitting, etc....

while I didn't have it in me to play with steel this weekend, I did fart around mocking up some parts, etc...

maybe these will give a better perspective on how it'll all lay out in the end.... questions, comments and opineyuns always appreciated.... :D

forgot my rambling notations..... :crazy::haha:

for those that didn't know, the glovebox/breaker panel will have a smoked lexan door...

EVERYTHING will be black except the cage, seats and gauge trim rings........

you can see in the passenger view the sheetmetal corner I still need to modify up at the dash to fit the LCD..

both rectangular holes in the gauge bezel will house most of the switching... lighted Contura's...

i have a plan for the trim above the glovebox.. but at this point I'll be leaving it, and the stereo hole to the left, so I can just throw the old head unit in temporarily till the PC is up and running....

i like em, need to get some more... definitely a "better", brighter light... the most i saw at the depot was 100 watters... wish i could find em in those crazy big ones I bought, they're like 250's..

well, insomnia strikes again..... :doah: early morning, caffeine induced, build ramblings... :wink1:

I'm VERY glad I decided to retain the dashpad... I really, really like the lines of the custom stuff incorporated into the factory... think it's pretty original...

one happy accident that ended up happening was the LCD sections angle ended up being just about the same angle as the gauges... cool....

I can see it done in my head, just gotta get it there... :eek1: I need a sponsor! :haha:

well, I actually haven't spent any money on the truck in 3 months, it'll be nice to get tube and composite next week.... that should free up a thousand hrs of labor, give or take....:crazy::doah::eek1::haha:

those are 2 "projects" I'm stoked on, the rear cage and all the composite panels.... the dungeons gonna be full of dust from cutting all that composite.

That's just the seam sealer.

He's got it everywhere on that truck.

Danke!

ANd there's a jobber who can get it right by my rental house, that doesn't happen often!
I got a few spots I wanted to fill on my underbody and some places I cut where the line-x didn't fill in completely. I pulled out caulk a few months ago but knew better than to use that. This is perfect.
