87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

oh, and here's some shots with the lights off...

still need to get new adjusters and finish the turn signal brackets.... but the grill/headlight depth looks like it worked out pretty good.. the light will be about 1 1/2" to 2" behind the grill...

I'm pretty pleased with the layout... it's how I pictured it.. now I just need some OR lights out on the bumper...

and I need to unfortunately find a spot for a license plate! :doah: :(

thanks... I once did a full smoked plexi one on a Challenger that covered the headlights, came out pretty cool...

I'll say this, the front of this rig should be able to take some tree abuse pretty well... it's all built like a brick sh*thouse... bolting the grill on with 7 3/8's bolts, we'll say, stiffens it up quite well! :saweet:

oh, and I'm really starting to dig the expanded... it seems to "work", look right, with the big cowl hood and the bumper with that skid....

I think once the coolers, lines and fittings are in it should be pretty impressive looking... tho they are on hold... getting axles under it is the next parts purchasing priority...

I also really dig the angles on the bumper.. it turned out nice and tight.... should be an awesome approach angle...

this is the shot I dig..

I think it's turning out to be a pretty sick front clip..

actually I like this shot better out of the 3rd folder...

Did you think about mounting the turn signals directly under the headlights like the 1973-'80 models have it?

Martin

the funny thing about that is, that's actually why I went to round headlights... i'll explain... the way i was designing the angled bumper tube there, it was gonna cut across the lower dual headlight on the 87 quad headlights..

so i said, screw it, i'll put the tube where i want it, even a tad higher than i originally mocked it up... then run a single round in the corner... then move the turn signals to that opening... really wouldn't have proportionally enough room to put it there now... maybe if i had the angle bar a bit lower... but i really like the marker/turn over more to the middle.. in that "window" of the bumper...

gotta figure out what to do about a plate.. initially i could just wire tie it next to the headlight to the grill because i wont have the OR lights... but eventually when i get those, i'll have to move it inside the stinger... more than likely i'll add a vertical mount tab off the main tube and put it right in front of the filters.... i'll get yanked over in a second without it...

Carve the license plate down to the bare minimum, then mount directly above the fairlead area.

I've seen plenty of plates here with the upper and lower strips removed...just the numbers and letters left. Makes it less obtrusive. I hate mandatory front plate laws, we have em here too. Ironically I have been driving for 6 months without a front plate or a front bumper and have been left completely alone. :dunno:

I totally agree!
We are lucky in AB. no front plate neaded.
When I lived in B.C. I didn`t run one on a few of my cars and was never pulled over for it.

I'd love to do that.. I'd be a little leary of getting f*cked with over it, but it definitely would be a nicer way to do it... thanks for the idea Rene...

hopefully I'll be getting the floor done this weekend and I can start doing final interior install... also need to start getting the 14ff housing in shape too...

my labor list is always just stupid long.... :doah: :haha:

how huge is that for you guys? :ears: my widescreen digs it... :saweet:

just decided I might change the upload size for Photobucket with the new camera.. I have a sneaky suspicion I may be close to paying for Photobucket.... :doah: :haha: my album is about 2000 pics...

Umm, you need to make that picture much bigger, that is tiny compared to my new monitor at 1080p.

Looks really good Paul, I hope I live long enough to see this thing get back on the road.:haha:

damn you...... :angry1:

:eek1: :haha: I'm trying mang..... :haha:

trust me, it's forefront in my cranium... all else is on hold till I get a rolling chassis... still got a few parts needed...

I think I only have 3 major mods left, shock towers, front and rear, and the back bumper.. and I need the 60 in to do the front towers/x-tie, well, actually, i could just mock up the housing....

wow thats scary man.at least its gettin dealt with.i know you will not let anything unmodded or at least gone through to make sure its good or rebuilt.everything you do is overkill or at least better than stock.i cant wait to see it outa the garage and rollin.if its at least runnin and movin you can get more motivated to get it legal and permanently goin.

dooooo nottttt pay for another photobucket. you simply sign up with another email address. ps, truck looks awesome

thanks guys.... just logistically alone, it'll help me tremendously having it down on rubber... sick of looking at it on sawhorses....

it'll still be a long way off, no trans or shafts.. but it'll be motivating none the less...

still need quite a few parts for the 14, but I'm close to being able to putting the 60 together.. wanna pick up the bearing tool and I still wanna get the bronze kp bushings.... but the housing has been all smoothed and in zinc ready to go..

the 14, not so much, hopefully I can get it smoothed and blasted this week... tho work has gotten to full blown psycho-mode now...I could be doing 100 hr weeks right now...

btw, out of curiosity, has anyone here ever said my name out loud in a conversation?

I had to laugh, I met my buddies at the diner this morn, walked in and got the chorus of "Ryyyyooooken!" :pimp:

the waitress gave me the oddest look... :haha:

Funny you mention it. I just told my wife I needed to check CK5 before she shut the computer down tonight. "Gotta see what Ryoken got done this weekend". She kinda looked at me funny and said Ry what?

I just laughed and pointed out to the garage and told her "he's the guy that unknowingly convinced me to do "that" to my K5." She quit smiling and had a little less friendly look on her face, since I just finished hacking out my stock dash to install my new DIY4X dash. She'll like it in the end...I hope.

sorry Jen! :haha: I don't mean to be a bad influence....

I actually love the nickname and when spoken very matter of factly like my friends use it, it works....

now my semi-uptight boss? can't envision him calling me that... :haha:
