How much weight do you figure to have saved by having all the glass on the truck? I'm sure it's not an overwhelming amount, but I'm just wondering. I know you're not going with the glass for primarily saving weight.

eh, I'm probably on the + side, as most of that is extracurricular stuff... :doah::haha:

the only one I'm saving on is the hood... I'd guess that's maybe 25, 30 lbs lighter than stock.. the heat assembly is lighter too...

I just didn't realize HOW MANY pieces there are... :doah:

I used to know a guy that was 6' 6" and drove one of those things.. how he fit in it, was beyond me... :haha:

oh... one more for that "to be built" list, that I've never talked about.. custom fiberglass door panels...

the reason I thought of it is I need to pick up a piece of composite for the underside hood work, so I figure I'll pick that material up too... maybe I can score some good thick freebie scraps from him for the sub boxes while I'm there also...

salad bowl faired with thickened resin...

tonight I start on the trough for the filter...

well, since I seem to be doing play by play on this little project, and it's a STUPID amount of steps and processes.....

as usual.......

"might as well" post em..... :haha:

I decided that a single "internal" guide for the filter would be best... it locates the filter, so no need to do an outer one... cleaner look too.....

rough cut... tonight I'll lam it up.. then when dry, I'll shape the inside to continue like the angle of the salad bowl to the top.. the critical one for this is the outside edge of the ring.. you really dont want to have to adjust that other than a light sanding to chamfer the edge a bit once glued down.......

that''ll complete the salad bowl area and hopefully this weekend I can begin to get the backwall and outer foamy lip glued in... I'd like to have the pan in fill prime by the end of the coming week...

oh, and the expanded and round rod should be here today, so hopefully I can start mocking up the grill this weekend...

oh, and that ring, once the interior angle is cut in, should have about a 3/8" flat reveal around the top..

expanded steel and 3/16 rod for grill... I went with an expanded that has 72% open area...

sharpie for size comparison....

At what point, is the intake riser no longer called a salad bowl?

I don't know.... this one is about 2" deeper, and 2" wider at the top than CFM tech's.. so I would say it still falls into that category, just supersized... ;)

Hahaha thats the glory hole at lake berryessa. I live like 20 min from there. When it is flowing its pretty impressive, it just shoots out the side of the mountain at the bottom

the output pipe is very, very famous in the skateboard world.. The Gloryhole, 30' fullpipe.. guys have been skating it for 40 yrs, gotta raft to it, etc... an epic journey I would have liked to take..

so, I'm bummed... I'm so stubborn, and i hate to admit defeat, but the gauges ain't gonna work... I'm just not happy with any solutions I've come up with...

I mocked up a wiper today and it sits higher than I remembered.. really thinking of putting a windshield in it this week.. I could make them fit, in the grill I'm making up, but they definitely would need a bit of peering/movement to see.. the wiper is definitely in the way.. and also, in order to have them fit, they need to be recessed back from the lip 3, 4" where the firewall comes up.. thats where the grill is going to be, so the mounting wouldn't be bad in the grill, BUT being recessed makes them even harder to see... without the wiper it would work, but combined, it's kinda f*cked..

and i just dont wanna mess with the back line of the hood.. the 3 hump thing might not be bad, but it may look goofy... sooooooo.. the gauges are coming inside... i found a spot...

i'm gonna run em over the LCD panel, where my stereo was in the prior incarnation....

I really hate to lose... I still think it's a badarse idea, and if the hood was an inch higher, I'd go for it..

but this will be cleaner.... just black recessed grill in there.. I've got enough going on with the hood as it is... only issue is the fact both the fuel, and trans pressure gauges will need to be isolated units now.... $$$$

alrighty.. back to sanding....

got some final sanding to do, priming, yada, but this is basically how the salad bowl/gloryhole worked out.....

While I still think you may run into issues in deep mud, seeing it all come together is pure awesomeness, I love the baseplate with the air filter guide. Bummer about the gauges man, if you weren't such a gauge whore these things wouldn't be a problem:haha:
