'87 K5 - Project "COAL" - LS6.0 / NV4500 / NP 205 / Dana 60 / 14 Bolt FF

Awesome build and story. Best of luck finishing it up for your girls. I'll definitely be tuning in to see how this project comes along.

Been down/sick for a while, just starting to come back around but my chemo isn't working so we are off to a new type starting in two weeks. It has spread to 14 places. Anyways enough of that.

Got my transfer case e brake ordered and should be here in the next couple days. I have the core support in along with the radiator and lines. Had the truck running with open headers, makes a little noise for the neighbors. I will give you a proper update tonight.

Sounds like progress.

Don't give up on the other. You never know what may happen. Attitude makes a difference.

How well did those headers fit ?
In your build so far, would you do anything different ?

several things, I'll list some out tonight. As far as the headers go, not bad, but far from right.

I absolutely agree, but it is tough when the top oncologist is the state says you have months.

So getting ready to start installing the G2 spindles. My transfer case brake will be in this week then on to removing the drums and installing the disc brakes. Finally got the fuel lines together. Adapters for the line are M14 and M16 made by Russell. The fuel / regulator is GM Vette regulator. I ended up using the Russell LS swap kit with the quick lock fittings. Worked well.

The pain in the rear upper radiator hose to my new Griffin direct fit radiator made for LS swaps final got answered. What a pain. Now I need to fan brackets.

Got a Spectre air filter kit that I hope is mocked up soon.

Looking back, I wished I used the adapter for the 4500 to the 205. I wanted as much length as I could for the rear driveshaft, but it caused real headaches with the front driveshaft, cross member (big time), exhaust and twin stick set up for starters.

Trying to decide on whether I buy a kit for the brakes or since I have all of the part numbers source it out. Roughly a $40 savings.

Also, I have exhaust that I have been using that isn't bad but thinking of putting on a new Flowmaster cans but can't decide which.

Hi all, this is Joe's daughter, Allison.

First and foremost I want to apologize for not reaching out to anyone sooner about his passing. I know he made some great friends on here through the years, life just got the best of me and I haven't found the time to sit down to write this.

As some of you may already know, my dad and I took on this project YEARS ago before I could even drive (I am 21 now). Since then, this project became our biggest bonding activity he and I ever had. Don't get me wrong, my dad was my best friend. We literally did everything together but looking back on the relationship we had, this is by far the most important memory to me.

So, of course, I need to do everything I can to make sure this seven year build finally gets finished because he fell probably a month short of finishing it. Luckily, as my dad got more and more sick, he started to write things down step-by-step so on his worse off days, progress could still carry on when his mind went blank.

Going forward I am going to need a lot of help with tracking down parts, probably more so than the assembly(but a little bit there too). I was able to get the body back on a few weeks ago and the pedals hooked up but I am now searching for a decent place to find a driveshaft. There are a few places around town but my dad invested so much into doing things right that I am not going to buy a POS driveshaft from some shady place just to get it done.

Also, I know probably a couple weeks down the road I am going to need help with connecting the wiring harness to the steering column because at the moment it is just a gigantic wiring mess. Being that this is all I have truly learned on other than miscellaneous things on my Jeep, I have a ton of questions simply because everything is just starting from scratch and it's nothing I have ever done before.
