'87 Suburban Build "munepit" I'm Back! Missed all you guys!

I didn't put in a new spring. I took out both springs and cleaned both and the both looked real good, and were the same heigth. So, I reused the spring and cap. The tierod I got from a junk yard. That could be the problem also. The rod ends look good, But could be out of alignment a little. I ordered a big tierod from ORD the other day. Today I ordered a Balistic Fab springless hi-steer arm. I am not going hi-steer but I got it anyway. I also ordered the bronze bushings today.

Can you give me directions to the money tree :D the stuff you ordered today has been on my wish list for the last few years lol

Well Its been on my wish list also. But now I need it. I cant wait for all the stuff to arrive!!

The different length in pitman arm and steering arm shouldn't have anything to do with your problem.

But it can cause other problems...
My experience says you can get away with a steering arm thats 1.1 times
longer than the pitman arm (that would make 7.7" with your 7" pitman arm)

If it's any longer than that you won't be able to steer fully lock to lock.
And that way you let your steering box be the limiting factor instead of the bolts in your knuckles,
and I don't think it's designed to handle that force against it's end positions.

Btw if you have a lot of suspension travel I'd go with equal length just in case...

Sweet! Thanks for the advice, it helped a lot.

I entered the burb in a mud bog and tuff truck last nite! I jumped the burb about ten feet in the air. Video to come soon. After everybody left the event and it was over, I jumped over 3 cars the monster trucks were jumping. It was sweet! Can't wait to see the video.
Only damage is a broken front shock and mount, bent fender and bent rear bumper.
In the last pic is my left front inner fender, after the shock broke my tire hit the top of the inner fender, that's like 15" of travel.

Cool!
Can't wait to see the video
So I guess new bumpstops are next on your to-do list :D

Yes, that and a pile of other stuff!! The fender is mangled! I have been pressure washing the beast for 2 hrs and I am not half way done yet! Now I remember why I have mud!

I did the first round of mud bog the and the first round of tuff truck. During tuff truck, on the first hairpin turn the back rt 42" TSL came off the bead and folded under the truck. I limped off course and parked it. Tom(Bradshawtech) and another friend of mine hauled ass home in toms work truck and pick up the set of 38s. We changed all the tires and made the 2nd round of mud and tuff truck! It was a nascar type of tire change.

This was the first time running the 42s and I had 8psi. Aparently that was not enough! I'm a dumbass!

Fixed them for you:

Nice flying at 1:28 in the last video :waytogo:
I'm guessing that's when the shock mount gave away

badass man! :D

I just picked me up a 84 suburban for my tow rig build and it looks like the 6.2 might be shot :(. Although after this video idk if its gonna be a tow rig anymore. Glad to see you enjoying your rig man.

All I can say is amazing... truthfully if you asked me what would happen if you jumped a suburbun... I'd say TONS of carnage. A broken shock and crimpled tin after a full aerial display is awesome! Well done.

Hey Tom, are you out there? Do you have a plasma cutter? I'm sure you do. I need some help cutting these, just need to make them fit the axle tubes. If you don't have one, I can order some that will fit. I have a dozen I could use for shock mounts. They are 3/8" I got from Kert at Diy4x.

Where should I put these, on top of the axle? Where is a good spot? Thanks!!

You should put them right next to the tabs for your limit straps !!!!

Seriously, beefier shock mounts are fine but you still can't use your shock absorber to limit your suspension travel.

If you're going to air-out your Burb again (and we all hope you do! :D) then it's time to invest in some good quality limit straps and bump stops too.....

:usaflag:

Sweet, thanks, I will do that.

I guess limit staps will go on the list also! Thanks!
