'87 Suburban Build "munepit" I'm Back! Missed all you guys!

Ahem...... We need to talk about this future plan of yours.

I know of one that is already well on it's way to being mechanically strong and might be available.

I don't trust those cheap crimp on connectors (the yellow units in your pic), especially when they aren't in the interior. I have seen too many corrode and/or pull apart, unreliable. If you have a better crimp tool (a nice Klein o rsomething) to fold the top over AND it is in the interior, then it might be fine. But for under the hood or exterior, I always pull the plastic sleeve off. Then crimp the joint, then solder the joint, then slide shrink tubing up(that you already placed on the wire before you crimped the terminal on if you can't get to the other end of the wire easily) and then shrink it. It's much more reliable than a cheap crimp connector, and it will look more like the big red wire. Also, I would replace the electrical tape with shrink tubing and solder the that one too.

You hit the nail on the head! Your right, It looks like crap and I will fix it. I knew it right when I put it on. I do need a good crimping tool and will get one this week. Thanks for the advice!!

I tried to solder it on, but the solder wouldn't stick to it. But I did redo it and then shrink wraped the wires. I think this should work.

I picked up another battery just like my other one for dual batteries.

I picked up a isolator too.

Is this the one I should use? Or is this a good way for dual batteries?
Or should I have gotten the Sea Breeze battery selector switch like Ryoken has.

Thanks guys!!

Sweet burb. The video of you jumping that car kicks arse.

Sometimes when soldering if its not sticking you might not have the connector/wire hot enough. Try adding a litte more heat next time.

so, preheat the wire? Sweet, I will try it next time. Thanks!

Are you talking the about the very end of the video? I asked the guy running the show if I could hit the cars. He said go for it, so I did. It sucks that they turned off the lights right when I hit the track. After the third time he said enough. I could have done it all night! The first time was the best. I don't think I touched the third car. The second jump is where I broke the front shock mount. I have some more video, but having a hard time uploading it.

What you don't see is when I blew the bead off the 42s. I hit the mud pit going the wrong way in 2wd with only one working tire. In the middle of the pit, there was a wheel and tire that fell off the back of a prerunner and was in the middle of the pit. I hit it pretty hard and buried it. I don't think he ever got it out and don't know what happened to it. The best part was me and two friends,(Bradshawtech) had his work truck with us and we hauled ass back to my house and grabbed my 38s and did a Nascar tire change and made the 2nd round of mud and tuff truck! Thanks again Tom, I owe you!!

"I owe you!!"

Well I love Shushi......

Really need to get over there and help with the welder and timing light. Ths weekend looks fairly open.

Sweet! Then sushi it is then! This weekend works for me! :waytogo: I will get the mounts off and the axles grinded down and ready for you! Thanks!

Let me know when you want to help me, I will make some time. (Might have to give my daughter some nyquil). Thanks Tom, your my one man pit crew!!

I got to thinking on the way home tonight, I wonder if we need to drain the oil from the axles before we weld on them?

Maybe post a thread and see what the guy's say, I would hate to have a fire from the oil getting hot. Most if not all the oil will be in the center section and we are welding on the outer ends but just to be sure and safe I would like to get someones opinion befor we start.

I think we will be good! No worries! Its been sitting for a while and all the oil is on the bottom of the tube, if there is any in there. I know I need to add some to the front anyways. I don't think I put enough in the first time. We will be good there's not that much welding, maybe for a truss, but that will be later:waytogo:

Thanks Clay, I want to do it every weekend!

I am working on the front shock mounts I got from Kert. I now need shorter shocks. Its going to be about 3" higher now. Here is some pics of where I think the right place for them will be.

And here is the top of the shock on jack stands. It will bottom out when it on the tires are on and on the ground.

Should I go with this?

I know I should search, but where can I get them? What year do I get? I don't want to get them from a junk yard, as I'm sure I would need a torch. Thanks!

Did some searching. I'm going with the stamped towers. Need to hit up the dealership. I don't feel like hittin up the junk yard, are they bolted on the Fords? If so, I might do that if they are easy to get off.

I THINK they are riveted. That, i assume, is why people buy them new. Might try fleebay i suppose also.
