87 TTB K5 - Luxury Prerunner

Got my heads and intake back today - overall quality of the work is good. He blended all of the casting, reworked chambers, milled, mild port work, blah blah blah... I started assembling and realized I don't have any thread sealant for the head bolts, so looks like I'm waiting until manana. Please excuse the crappy cell phone pics - I'm having trouble getting quality close shots.

Got the motor back together - still have a few things to button up though. Very pleased with how perfect the port match is. I stopped by Howe Performance earlier this week and picked up one of their TC series pumps, a mounting bracket, and a pulley. I will be running Hydro assist, and wanted to get those items now so I can figure out pulley alignment with the motor out of the truck. I was very pleased to discover that everything lined up perfectly with the march performance setup. First thing that's gone my way in a while :D I had never seen a TC series pump before - thing is tiny. I ordered a 180amp alternator from DC power inc. last week, and hope to get it this week or next. I'm also going to be ordering some new fuel lines from XRP this week - I have a tendency to over complicate things and plan to use their crimp fittings with PTFE hose - I figure it's smart to go the PTFE route considering all of the additives in today's fuel, then the 43.5lbs fuel pressure on top of it - better to be safe than sorry!!

Still not sure what I'm going to do for an air cleaner. My original plan was to use UMP stuff, but I'm having second thoughts now. The UMP airbox shown in the photo below looks super goofy sitting up so high, and I don't think I'll have hood clearance to run it. If I want to use the UMP filter I'll have to fabricate and airbox that has a drop base. Other thought is to use the drop base I have and run an R2C filter an outerwear. Anybody have any other suggestions? I'm trying to stay away from K&N stuff.

Beams came back from sandblast last week, and were cut on Wednesday. If I get by the fab shop this week I'll get some progress photos on the suspension stuff.

Beams are in progress and just about done. They're cut, extended 4.5" each side, turned, and plated througout. Pivots are changed to uniballs. Were working on designing a new cross member that will support the motor and beams. Crossmember will be boxed and internally gusseted. Gonna be ordering shocks in the next few weeks - plan is 2.5" x 14" king prerunner series coilovers, and 3.0" x 14" 3 tube race series bypasses. Rear will be purchased at a later date as I don't have the coin to drop on all at once. The blazer is in position at the shop, old cage has been cut out, rear floor boards out and cross members out. Gonna start on the cage next week hopefully.

As for the rear end my original plan was 4-link cantilever setup. I really didn't want anything penetrating the rear. After looking at a bronco in the shop that's getting the same treatment, I think I'm gonna go with a traditional 4-link with trailing arm type lower links that the shocks will mount off of. It makes engineering this whole thing a hell of a lot easier and faster. The one thing I originally wasn't considering is that I will be increasing the rear wheelbase 9" to match the front which will help me position the shocks further out. As long as I can fit two buckets in the rear I'm good!! More pics to come.

Shop started the cage yesterday. Here's a pic from today. I should be getting more everyday. Cross member design is almost complete, so should have the beams mocked up in a week or two.

More progress pics - Cage is coming along nicely. Pretty much calling it quits on the cab cage for now - don't want to do the back half until the rear suspension is mocked up, and can't really get to that point until the front it complete. So for now the focus is on the cross member, radius arms, engine cage, etc...
